Quick question about tyres, might be silly but thats how ya learn. Basically im trying to find out if i can stick 7.50 x 16 cross plys on my series one disco. its going to cover a lot of dirt road driving and some very long bitumen runs. i loved the old wheels on the series beast and would gladly go back to them. the discos running original steel rims.
Reasons are predominately, bang for buck. aggresive tread cheap tyre.
Input appreciated
Cheers

no doubt you could get the wheel alignment sorted so you could run rags but, an agressive tyre with a decent speed rating may be a little hard to find...
crossplys wear way quicker, at least 2 to 1
it wouldnt be worth the money you saved up front. IMHO
that said i am wayyyyy impressed with these sime konvoys on my swb....

BTW whats the speed rating on those nasty boys youve got. I was thinking that if I can pick up a type of tyre that I know and trust for half the price of name brand radial muddies then if it wears at 2 - 1 i could cope with that.

P.S. gives a decent size tyre at a huge saving compared to the raidials of similar size.

Before you go any further is your disco diesel or petrol? if it is petrol it will need 180Kpm speed rated tyres, I doubt if rags would be rated that high, but if it is diesel then no probs. Having said that I think there are many newer design tyres out there now that would be a better alternative, but as you have pointed out at a cost.
I still think the old 750X16 rags are an exellent slow speed extreme off road tyre.
Thats my two bobs worth hope I've helped.

Shes deisel,
I dont know im just used to driving loooong distances on the old xtra grips and i loved them. they never missed a beat and were tough as off road. Im not after pose factor width just a good tyre with decent tread and a decent rolling diameter. Not out to break land speed records either. It might be a silly idea but they worked well enough on the old series girl.
cheers
