Hi all,
So I bought my discovery 1 v8 a couple of months ago and noticed the hoses had been cut off for the headlight sprayers. I decided to buy more hose and a t-piece and connect it up only to discover the sprayer bottle empties itself slowly through the sprayers themselves. Anyone else had this issue or know what part is missing or how to fix it?
Thanks.

Hi,

I would have thought that the washer pump would stop the flow and only allow water to flow when the pump is running. So I'd suspect that the washer pump may be faulty.

The windscreen washers are higher than the reservoir so the problem isn't exhibited there.

One way to check is to disconnect one of the windscreen washer hoses and hold it below the reservoir. If water runs out continuously like the front headlight washers then the problem will be in the pump.

regards,
Mike

Took me a second to realise what that picture was lol.

Yeah I'll have to try that. Isn't there a separate pump for the headlights than the windscreen though? I don't remember. I'll have a look later. Thanks.

I had 2 D1s over a 15 year period and none of the headlight washers leaked so there is a leak in the system somewhere.

IIRC the headlight sprayers only work when the headlights are on, so I suspect there is a seperate pump for the headlight sprayers,
Just checked RAVE and yes there is a seperate headlight washer pump, and a non return valve behind the bumper area
