Hey everyone just traveling for the holiday break had having troubles with my car not sure what it's is. I just put a new clutch in a year ago but ever time I engage there is a grinding noise thought it was gear box at first but now I think it could be the clutch or bearing. It's not slipping but when I put load on it it vibrates badly and a loud grinding noise but when I get up to speed only been done 40 it ends up going away until I need to accelerate it comes back I gotta drive it 40 kms up the road not sure if I should drive? do people agree that it's the clutch. Have people had similar problems with td5 defenders

G'day Flaps, I don't have any personal experience with TD5's but it does sound like the clutch plate to me.

I ended up getting to my girlfriends dad's place where I could have a better look I was almost ready to pull the gear box out when I saw that the front propshaft had a slight wobble so I had a look and it seems the bearing as gone in the front dif which sort of made me abit happier we ended up taking the front prop off and have been driving around in 4x4. Not sure how that's going to go but there is a bloke down here that maybe able to fix but have to wait till he goes back on the 2 nd so I will be stuck down South until he opens.

Does anyone know if it's safe enough to drive without ur front propshaft and in diff lock for and extended period of time. Iv gotta tow my camper home I'm having trouble getting parts down here and some people arent open.

I've read of plenty of examples of people doing it for extended periods without issue.

Hi Flaps , if your front prop gone ,sure take It off drive with centre diff locked , no problems get you home and some . If you have a bearing gone in the front diff don't forget that It will still be turning , if It lets go It will do more damage to the front diff , costing you even more . It's your call !!..
