hi there

i have a 2009 puma defender that has some modifications one of those includes a front double carden join and adapter supplied by apt.

my question is has any one had any experience with the font tansfer box seal leaking after such mods (the shaft is a good shaft and has been in for 20000 km with no dreamers till now)

posable causes that i can come up with are:

added stress to seal and bearing from dc shaft and adapter
may have struck some thing on front diff shunting the drive line
may just be as simple as a seal gone bad from 4wd use

any advice wild be help full

cheers zeke

Hi Zeke, it is unlikely to be extra strain on the front due to the DC joint - basically the same lt230 TC case is in the Disco 2 which has a LR DC shaft from new as standard. I ran both a DC and later a Cornay joint on the front of my Puma with no dramas, so dont worry. (plenty of members here use DC's on their Pumas too). It could be as simple as the felt washer that is located behind the big retaining nut and washer on the output flange. Easy to check and fix, the felt washer is cheap, you can actually put 2 in there if needed and make sure you use a bit of sealant, such as Threebond behind the felt washer. Even if it turns out to be the main seal it is easily replaced. Probably just wear and tear.
