COMPRESSION QUESTION ???

there are two compression set ups for 2.25l Series 3 '76 Landrover.

a 7-1 compression ration & an 8-1 compression ratio.
each has a preferred spark plug gap but will operate using the wrong gap just not as good.

How do I tell what the compression ratio is, if I perhaps... er ... maybe had been so dumb as to throw out the spark plugs that were in it before considering such things?

Yours would be the three bearing engine. Im having a look round for that manual but in the process of moving so everythings a big mess. If your desperate in the mean time theres a place at Archerfield called FWD motors. They specialise in series landies and there just off the ipswich motorway (underpass off lilian avenue and turn right). There a great mob and will have the right part if you pop down there and tell em your engine number.

The 3 bearing 2.25 motor as fitted to Australian produced Series Landies was a 7:1 comp head and were fitted with Champion N8 Engine Timed at 6 degrees BEFORE top dead centre if pre anti-polution or if anti -polution gear is removed,

Imported Vehicles, (Station Wagons and some Specials) were fitted with 8:1 compression heads ( this is picked by an "8" stamped into a flat on the manifold side of the head inline with the carb. NO "8" then its 7:1 or a shaved 7:1 8:1 == N12Y Champion

I run NGK-B6 ES in my 68 2a with a shaved head and have no overheating or plug burn problems. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

the "8" stamped into the machined flat on the center of the top on the manifold side of the head is usally about 12mm {half-inch) high and is not always clearly visible.

many times you only get to see "0" or"o"
