My 1986 Isuzu Landrover 110 has no pto outlet hole in the chassis rear cross member and has body-coloured galvanized flashing at the rear of the vehicle, but no flashing at all on the doors ( like Defenders). It also has a fuel cap with 2 teeth (perhaps the lightweight racing fuel cap)

Am I sitting on a rare experimental prototype, did these things come out of the factory with such minor build variations, or has mine been banged up in a previous life?

Oh, and it doesn't leak oil.

Mine has no PTO outlet in the rear cross-member, but none of the others apply. My guess is that the other differences are changes made during it's life. The interchangeability of parts makes this very likely, especially if it has had either major accident damage repaired or restoration work at some stage.

Of course, there were also build variations as well, but I think the above is rather more likely!

yes afaik there was a change away from exposed galv cappings in '86, and fuel cap and door handles were changed around then, too. not all got this at the same time as the isuzu variants were finished here and vin stamped when they were finished...could be later than v8 models built and released .

i have seen a 1986 isuzu one fitted with 5 spd lt85 with galv cappings still.

Mine is 12/86 and is the same (not sure what you mean by the fuel cap).
You should also have the soft padded cubby box lid.

By 1990 they had painted cappings (non-gal), push button doors and a rear seat moved forward and up (same as a efender).

are the bulkheads double skined in the footwells?

The change to the doors and cappings was supposed to be 1987, and the change to the five speed was supposed to be 1986 - but my 1986 has a four speed.

My Dad's 110 purchased new around May or June '86 had painted cappings with no strips on the doors, and as expected a five speed gearbox.
My '85 of course has all the good bits, gal strips everywhere, four speed bla bla bla :D but no PTO hole as such, just a hole for the trailer wiring socket on the driver's side of the rear crossmember.

I've never heard of that, and it would promote corrosion

and indeed it does...welcome to Tdi teritory  Not only is it double skined, but they have created a cavity in the angled section. Its tight lapped from the vertical, then kicks off at an angle earlier inside than out (this is where the cavity is) then returns to a tight lap at the little horizontal bit that the floor screws to.

easiest way to tell is that if you look at the bulk head from outside, underneath is that it has profiles in the angled section for strength, on the inside it is dead flat skin. You can see the few spot welds and the adhesive/sealant.

I hadn't noticed that :o, but just looked at my 120 and it is the same, except no corrosion in mine :)
