Two different subjects, but no need to open too many posts!!!

1. Is there any other car (toyota hilux or similar) that has 5 stud wheels that can fit on discovery 1? except defenders and classics ofcourse!!!

2. Why are all discovery roof racks positioned so far from the roof? Every one I've seen has about 10 cm from the roof to the bottom of the rack regardless if it's flat or follows the roof slope? Discovery already has that higher part of the roof at the rear, why so much gap?

3. Every discovery that I've seen that has only half roof rack has it positioned all the way at the rear. Why not at the front? Roof is lower at the front, and weight distribution is better!!!

Being new to Discovery, I'm just wondering about this stuff.

Thanx for the patience!! ;)

Disco 1, RRC, Defender and Series all run the same stud pattern. No others that I can recall.

Access is better for a half rack mounted at the rear, as pop058 has already mentioned you are limited to either original or aftermarket landrover rims as nothing else suitable will fit.

I had a set of widened FJ Holden rims that I ran on a Series II SWB on Fraser Is in 1970. Worked quite well on Fraser with 15" tyres off Fairfax's Rolls Royce. :D

The FJ had same stud pattern as Disco I, Series Landys etc but not really suitable (or legal) for the Disco.

Not the same, transit is the only ford with the same PCD as a landy.

Well if you want to go vintage, 21" steel rims off a 1925 Dodge 4 fit.

Our '85 & '89 Rangie wheels fitted on our D1 but not vice versa because of the hub diameter.

Umm just read the original post again & my info is meaningless, sorry!

They will fit you just need to grind a little off the hubs (like 1-1.5mm) , i had D1 steel rims on both my 81 2dr and 85 4dr rangie's.

I have 2 sets of roof racks. Set of Rola Racks at the front which are offset and stay on all the time, which allows me to go in underground car parks etc. These I use for the surfboard mainly but I do have a basket which fits for medium trips away.

2nd set which goes on over the rear step when I load both sets up for longer trips away. And yes easier to access from standing on the rear bar or wheel to access than the front bars. Unfortunatley when loaded, car parks can be a problem with this set on also:(
