Ever since I had my D3 it came with its own resident small mammal that made little squeaking noises at 80ks or above. It would always begin its conversation entering an on ramp of a smooth freeway. I suppose because the road was relatively bump free, I could hear the squeak quite easily.
It was hard to track down though. It came from the drivers side. Sometimes sounding like it was right next to my ear, other time sounding as though it was forward near the speaker and mirror control, sometimes it sounded like it came from the rear. I was imagining some little rodent running back and forward in the door hollows.
Today I think I found the source of the squeak. Two locations actually. If you've got a rodent loose, try these.
1. The black trim on the outside of the A-pillar. I noticed that it squeaked when I thumped it with my palm. Several of the little plastic clips had fractures in their plastic skirts. I took off the trim.I stuck the fractures together with electrical tape, and re-seated the trim more firmly.
2 The black door trim at the rear of the drivers side window ( over the B- pillar) Hitting this with my palm created a knocking noise that didn't happen on the passenger side. A bit of electrical tape jammed in the crack to limit movement fixed that.
Took her for a long drive today. Squeaking noise gone. Hooray. No need to call the pest control.:D
