Hi All,
Happy 2014 everyone :)
My wife and I are shortly on the move from west to east (from Mandurah WA to the Sunshine Coast QLD). Heading overland in a 2012 Range Rover Sports.
Anyhoo, Im covering all eventualities with preparation and am keen to take a jump starter just in case the unthinkable happens in the middle of nowhere, i.e. the Nullarbor after a nights camping.
My question being what jump starter would be appropriate (and not fry anything electrics wise) to take for the Rangey? I cant really find many apart from Super Cheap Auto (SCA brand which Im not sure about anyway).
Im also wondering if anyone has experience with whacking an Optima battery in a late model Rangey? Im told the yellow top D27 is the go as it fits in the battery tray/bay.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks heaps,
Chris H.

I use a 75 Amp hour (Blue Apple) Thumper from Home of 12volt. This is not a cheap option. The battery pack is AGM.
The unit includes circuits to protect the car's computers when jump starting. And while I have never had to jump my own car it has been easy to take the battery to the stranded other car on a few occasions. Heavy jump leads are included with the battery.
There are a variety of connectors (Merritt, cigar, Andersen 50 amp and 175 amp). All can be used to recharge and circuit breakers are built in.
The state of charge is shown by a volt meter on the unit.

Check it out on the web to see if it suits your needs. I have been very happy with the versatility afforded by this system.

Hi Chris and the set up below would be the simplest option for you and the correct battery size id the Optima Yellow Top D34.

With this set up, as long as your cranking battery is just flat and has not dropped a cell, with allow you to jump start from your driver’s seat.

BTW there is no potential danger caused when jump starting from another vehicle or to another vehicle but there are plenty of myths and advertising hype relating to same.
