Hi everyone,
I'm looking to rebuild my 1997 3.9 v8 in my disco 1 auto, but out of curiosity and if I decide to turf the 3.9, are there any holden v8 conversions in to discovery 1's?

Probably not the right area for this post but anyway, you can drop an LS1 into a disco for relatively little money. Still cost what ever an LS1 costs plus the $800 or so for the conversion kit from Marks Adapters and the labor of putting it in.

Remember that any conversion to a non standard motor will require an Engineers certificate - there is a list on the Vic Roads website of approved Engineers who can do this for you. Talk to them first to see what they want you to do regarding engine mounts, etc. if you just dive in boots and all, you may find you will have to rework things to make your Engineer happy later. Remember that any engine you use will have to meet emissions requirements for the year of the vehicle, NOT the year of the engine, so plonking an old 308 in there with a carby just won't cut it. Allow $1,500 for the Engineers report.
Also, your current insurance company may ditch you, so factor in insurance from someone like Shannon's who will insure a modified vehicle.
It won't be cheap to do a conversion properly, but it won't be cheap to rebuilt your 3.9 if you go a comprehensive rebuild with top hat liners, etc. Personally, if you had the money, I would drop an LS1 or similar in there.:)
All the best with whatever you decide.:)

Find a top hated 4.6 and drop that in, use a better came and free flowing exhaust, so much easier. But if you want serious horsepower, ls1:)
