View Full Version : Is it hot enough for you?

sheerluck
4th January 2014, 03:16 PM
A curious question that I have been asked more times today than I can remember. I know that comedian Carl Barron's stock response is "why, can you do something about that can you?", which seems pretty fitting.

Yes, so it was 39 degrees before ten this morning, and the gauge in the car showed 44.5 at 3pm and the thermometer on the back verandah shows 44. It's a warm day, my iPad shut itself down saying it was too hot, the PC has also turned itself off.

So What other daft (or sarcastic) responses can you think of for such a silly question?

Here's mine:
*No, can you add another 10 degrees please, I'm not melting enough.
*Hot? You call this hot? When I were a lad, we had proper heat.
*I blame global warming.

I have one

"to be honest you QLD's and other states need to HTFU as NSW has had a number of 40 degree days in spring! yet we didn't die"

hahahahah hows about that one :D

although I must admit a week or two a go I was moaning because it was still 32.8 degrees at 9pm...that was a hot night!!

and even if it was Fahrenheit no doubt you will still need to HTFU as no doubt the state would shut down because you would be whinging that your frozen and dont have alpine fuel :D

Not delirious, no. I was driving along earlier thinking "perhaps this would have been one of those days where it would have been good to have working air-con in the car"

Quickly dismissed that thought though. :p

Yeah, we don't like the cold (anything less than 20degrees) north of the border. That's time to light the woodburner!

It's days like this that the dogs don't like travelling in the Defender. If the TD5 Aircon is worse than a PUMA I don't know why they bothered. I was driving through Rockhampton yesterday and it was 46Deg C and I actually thought about winding down the windows and just getting the hot breeze.

If us QLDers are so soft how come NSW hasn't won a State of Origin for 8 years. You southerners need to learn about humidity. It's a bit toasty out and about in Townsville today. Only 35 - 36 Deg but I reckon you southerners might whinge a bit with the humidity.

Well Mr Sheerluck.
Yes, it is quite hot enough for me, more of it will be a decidedly catastrophic issue.
You see, I'm currently staying at the Marriot beach resort in that Thai Island that the swear filter won't let me type.
So if it gets any hotter, I will be forced to get up, and move my sun lounge slightly more to the left, for some more shade. This means my beverages will take longer to arrive when the staff bring them over to me, I will be forced to adjust my airconditioned apartment when I return, which is always a chore, and too much heat will mean all the pretty girls lounging by the pool will go away.
So yes, quite hot enough, no more thank you.

Careful! I'm not sure if your poor body, from the frozen wastelands and permafrost of Orange will be able to stand the heat of the resort of "Oh-damn-it". :D

Sitting here on the back verandah with a nice iced drink, it's cooled down to 38 with a light breeze. Just got out of the pool for the fourth time this afternoon (this morning was a training event with my son's cadet group, I felt for them in their uniforms!) and even the dog isn't huffing and puffing any more.

Our daughter & her fiancé are presently in Thailand at Koh Phangan, & are about to move to Samui. Daughter , having backpacked thru Vietnam, & having just received her teaching registration, is curious to see the difference in the culture of the 2 nations. The highlight of future husbands holiday so far has been the fact that beers are $3 , & you can walk the streets while drinking them. & something about a zip line. I hope that is a ride above the jungle, or similar. I love the boy, :D Bob

Now I understand! The NSW version of "just coping with it" consists of retreating to your lounge room, with the air con dialed up high! Not like us Queenslanders (no air con), who were outside, and just jumped in the pool every so often to cool down.

So the remarkable, nay famous, fortitude of the New South Welshmen is solely down to Fujitsu, Sharp, Daikin or others.......:wasntme:

Hanoi.
4th trip to the area, first time was in 06. Spent maybe two days in HCMC, then headed north.
Since then it's only been the occasional stop over for international - domestic flights.
Personally I prefer Hanoi, it's a much more pleasant city to spend time in on your own, which is helpful as mum works here, and will be for the next year :)
No shortage of nice cars, we looked after a Vietnamese girl when she studied in Australia, kind of became my half sister, so she looks after us when we visit, and her parents are super wealthy.
The parking lot would have had upwards of $1M worth of fine motor vehicles, Lexus, the Vogue, BMWs, Audis, etc.
But I agree, the people and the food are wonderful, so friendly.

Interesting to hear your comments about preferring Hanoi. We were there in winter and it was fairly cold, but enjoyable. Loved Ha Long Bay, despite all the tourists, but we went on an extended junk cruise so got away from the day visitors. It was obvious there were some very wealhty people, but I'm told there's a lot of corruption involved in doing well there.

Hi Les

Enough of the lolly water mate, most of us drink beer here in Oz! :twobeers:

So did you manage to get some heat from that other site?

I saw where there was a record temperature recorded in Birdsville Queensland on the 24th of December 1972, of 49.5 degrees Celsius.

And Hell has frozen over,
Hellishly cold
In one small town in Michigan the snow was so deep a snow plough got stuck. What makes it noteworthy is that the place is named Hell. The 600 residents had to endure temperatures of minus 20 degrees. Forecasters predict an improvement but at the moment it’s so bad that Hell has literally frozen over.

So the predictions are coming true, it's just that the timing is wrong and the results are inverted. :wasntme:

Interesting to hear your comments about preferring Hanoi. We were there in winter and it was fairly cold, but enjoyable. Loved Ha Long Bay, despite all the tourists, but we went on an extended junk cruise so got away from the day visitors. It was obvious there were some very wealhty people, but I'm told there's a lot of corruption involved in doing well there.

Ha Long Bay was quite nice when we went in 06, but apparently it's getting alot more touristy, and a lot dirtier, which is a pity.
And yes, corruption up to the eyeballs, but it's not quite as 'bad' as it seems to be in Australia.

Lit the fire today for the first time since well before Christmas. And had over an inch of rain. Supposed to start warming up again tomorrow, and be in the forties by next week.
