Changing vacume advance unit

Hi can any one advise me on changing the vacuum advance unit took this dissy cap off and the rod seems to be connected to something do you have to dismantle the dissy also if timing should be set to 10 deg what plugs should I be using I use ngk but hot or coldie 5/6 any help appreciated warnie

All have done is dissy out, hold upright in vise, undo the two torx screws, pull vac unit out slightly and slide rod off pin and its out. Reverse to assemble and put a bit of hose in vac port and suck on it to double check that vac unit is engaged on pin before putting dissy back in car.

is it possible to do without taking the dissy out? and is there a particular set of plugs I should use with 10 deg timing setting hotter or colder I am using ngk bp6 at moment

It is possible to change the vac advance whilst still in the car but it is a bit of a stuff around. you need a stubby torx screw diver or a torx bit that will fit a ratchet. It is also a bit of a hit and miss affair getting the vac advanve arm to fit on the pin in the dissy. Certainly easier with it out, but then again getting access to the dissy retaining bolt and plate is a pain if you have big mits.

Cant help you with plugs sorry. I just use what every it says in the catalogue at supercheap

i use ngk bpr5es change every 10k tried bosch champion all give poor idle can change vacume unit without taking out dizzy just use small mirror to see pin which attaches to vacume arm
