Discovery 2 steep hill

Hi all, I'm thinking about buying a disco 2 td5. I have an extra cab hilux 1998. My worry is that the hilux has a really long wheelbase and low center of gravity and the disco is about 1/2 a meter less wheelbase and alot higher roof. How does a disco thats been lifted to fit 31 or 33 tires go on steep 4x4 hills? I spend most of my weekends exploring the high Country and I'm worried the disco looks like it may roll over?

Discos have a good side slope angle when stock.

Of course depends how much you lift it but I cannot see its rollover potential to be greater than Hilux.

Most Disco weight is low down with a very heavy chassis and drivetrain.

You do not really need a lift at all for 31 inch tyres as long as you go reasonably narrow.
I have 2 inch lift and 255.70x16 and just went up Mt Pinnabar and managed not to fall over.

Compared to a Hilux you will find a Disco 2 magic with traction control acting like lockers that don't break axles even though they fluff around a bit getting traction.

Ahh thats something I didn't think about, the weight low down. Yeah I would want to keep the suspension mods as low as possibly. Thank you for the reply, I looked all over for an answer.

If you roll it then it means you've gone too fast.

The traction control is ridiculous in how good it is on loose/scrabbly tracks. Just let it crawl wherever it needs to go.

The traction control on my d2 is the main reason I haven't got rid of it. I was very impressed.

The disco (anything land rover) is more stable on side slopes than a 90's hilux.

We had a hilux roll where a 2inch lifted defender went though; the d2 has wider axles again, and stiffer roll bars.

Add a 2 inch lift to a Disco 1 and see what happens. I can never fathom why people go for ridiculous lifts that go against the purpose of what they are after in a 4wd. This is my old Disco in the video below:

In this case, I think the problem is not the lift of the Disco.

Hilux is the only vehicle that I've heard of where a suspension manufacturer wouldn't produce lifted springs because it wasn't stable. The newer ones have much lower CofG's.

The Disco2 is stable, but as with any vehicle the more you lift it the more stability you will lose. I'm lifted 4" in the springs, ACE and run 33" tyres where it has been very stable on road, dirt and in the bush. On 34-5's the bias tyre carcass movement can cause some anxiety at times but its not too bad.
