"Lest we forget".

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the daytime:
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night.

As the stars shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

Well done BB, and I hope we all remember long into the future what was done before us to protect our dreams.

Lest We Forget. Keep Australia Free.

Very poingnant poem at a time when we should thank those that fought and died for our freedom.

That was my son in the Navy uniform and holding the sword leading the Cadets who were marching the flag at the head of the parade. My involvement in the parade every year makes for a very thought provoking day when some time is spent talking with the young and old alike.

Indeed.

Did anyone see the Andrew Denton "Enough Rope" special last night? He spoke to several veterans (of various wars) and a war widow - it was great to get all these perspectives on Anzac day from the soldiers themselves as well as those left behind. I reckon its a program that plenty of kids would do well to see.

You're right :!:

I joined my kids scout group visiting the local RSL last week... Talked all about what ANZAC was all about. The old Digger that took them round and talked to them was a great bloke.

Managed to give them a good idea how ugly war is ... while keeping them fasinated and proud to be Australian.

The county will be poorer when all those old guys are gone......Bloody sure I won't forget them....

And the kids won't forget either ... ( Not if I can help it)

Even if the 7 year old reckons the most important thing he learned was...

Owen machine guns were designed by an Aussie and they don't jam when they're full of mud! :roll: 8O :roll:
