Arrgh dead hard drive

Well I thought I would try out w7 64 bit. Have a few hard drives around. So hooked up a ide one as a slave to transfer over stuff I want to keep. Gave the hard drive a format and was working ok. Transfered all the stuff over. Got w7 64 bit loaded and working. Plugged the ide hard drive back in to move the files I wanted to keep back into the new windows. Hard drive dead, bereft of life, kaput etc. Not spinning at all. Tried the drive on two other computers with the same result. Not happy at all as I have about fifty gig of files in there that I want. Might have to take it to a repairer and see what they can do.

if its not powering up at all grab a magnifying glass and have a close look at the soldering joints for the 4 pin power plug.

I've been in the same place only to find that while it was in storage it had been dropped and the solder had cracked away from the board, some quick touch up and it powered right up (and was immediately backed up)

Pop it in an airtight bag and put it in the freezer overnight, somtimes extreme cold is enough to shock them to life, when I worked in that industry data recovery was expensive depending on how it was retrieved and how much there was.

maybe the circuit board has died, had this happen quite a few times to customers......went to second hand shops and found a hard disk with same size, same model and same circuit :) Plugged the hard drives in and worked like a charm. Usually you will find 30-40 bucks does the job :)
Its as simple as removing the circuit board and carefully placing the working one on

If it is the CB, contact the manufacturer. Send them an email with the details of he HDD and details of the board including a photo of it.
I have the same problem with a Seagate HD, sent an email one Thursday to USA and the following Sunday, yes Sunday, I have a new board delivered at my place sent from Singapore! :cool:
If the driver it is very old perhaps you can get a CB locally.
