Allright for all you 300TDI owner's!!!
Has anyone had an occasion where their oil warning light came on? Pulled over checked the oil, and any other telltale problem's?
This happened today when my wife was driving home!!! I have only recently done a oil change and filter. When I dri=ove the vehicle tonight I couldn't get the lamp to illuminate!!!!
Could it have been an intermitant fault? or have I used the wrong grade oil, I have started to use the Penrite light Diesel oil with a Morey's oil conditioner?
I'm not to concerned at the moment as the oil level is fine and when I checked the system while engine was operating everything seemed fine?
Any one have any thought's!!!!
Please don't mention Oil pump failure!!!!!!!!!!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

Why not put a t piece in line with the sender and fit a gauge so you can see what is happening.

Not a bad idea!!! 8)

 You wouldn't hear about it !!!!
I had a air block in front of the sensor!!!!
Re did the oil and filter and actually filled the filter with fresh oil before twisting it back on, it's amazing what can happen when you do thing's right the first time!!!!!!!!

Doh it's back again!!!!
I have what appear's to be some oil pressure as when I took the filler cap of oil is seen pumping around the top, and when I remove the Dip stick oil spit's out the top!!! ?
The light will only come on at idle, as soon as you increase the vehicle speed or rev's pick up above 800rpm it goe's out!!!! Could it just be a faulty sender unit!!!!
I am also wondering whether the Morey's oil conditioner mixed with Penrite Light Diesel Hpr could be affecting it?
Any though's people? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

You could try a new oil pressure sender. They are only a pressure switch and if the contacts inside get gungey then they don't work too well when the pressure drops at idle. I have had one pop the switch mechanism right out and spew oil everywhere! (XF Falcon I was driving at the time). If it still does it with a new switch, maybe the oil pump could be losing some efficiency and if it only happened since you used a new recipe of lubricant, maybe go back to the old recipe and see what happens. 8O
Just a thought, anyway. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

I still reckon I'd put a cheap gauge on it and see what pressure it has.

What sort of pressure should he be looking for shaunp?

V8 should have high 20s psi at 2000rpm tdi should have between 25-60 at normal running speeds ie from say 1500- 4000 rpm. Most light sensors come on between 5 and 10 psi. Worn pump or sticky/leaking relief valve will cause low pressure but still pump oil to the top of the engine however bearings will starve under load. I remeber a 3.8 jag engine where there was heaps oil at the top but only had 15psi at 3000rpm. One of the split pins from the conrod nuts had fallen out and gone through the pump breaking the out eccentric ring into 4 pieces. It left perfect impints on the pump gears as well. Worst case low pressure is worn bearings, in 3.5 V8 this can some times be the cam bearings with are not replaceable, the cam just runs in the alloy block, 3.9 on has replaceable cam bearings.

While your here shaunp,,,
is it as simple as I read to change cams to a standard 3.9?

It's not hard to change a cam, but it is a bit of work. 3.9 cam has 30deg more duration than a 3.5. While it would fit I'm not sure how it would effect the low torque of the smaller engine. I would just Talk to Dean Tighe at Tighe cams he has some good grinds that work well in these engines. I never fit stock cams to new engine. Holden and Chev grinds also work ok. Have a look at their web site. www.tighecams.com.au

The Raa dude the other night was telling me the pump is failing etc!!!!!!
Took it to the boy's at Triumph Rover at Lonsdale, 2min later fauly switch Crawf!!!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif ( Bugga ) all that panic for a switch but hey that's why we have these sites!!! To help diagnose our problem's!!!
Thanks for all your input guy's style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

If you have only just recently changed the oil to a different brand, I would say that the oil is to thin for your engine, the oil addative shouldn't change the viscous of the oil. Try a slightly higher viscous oil for your engine and see if that fixes it at idle.
