I'm thinking the same thing.

I've just cut out the CENTRE Muffler in my 97 4.6 P38 (not the one at the rear) and it sounds great!

Obviously the L322 has a twin muffler set up centre and rear.
Which would be better to take out?

OK Marshy, look like no-one knows or cares, so I've done it.
Easy job took about 45mins with a hacksaw. I figured worst case scenario is have it welded back up again....

All observations from INSIDE the car, havent got anyone to do a driveby yet.
So the result is:
Idle: 5% louder (more drone than burble unfortunately, but not yuck.
>1200: 25% louder (droney - doesnt sound as burbley as hoped)
1200>4000: 50% louder (sounds good, but not all time great exhaust)
<4000: Didnt get there yet.
100kph: 10% louder. But not burbly. No constant drone luckily.
Kick down: 40% louder. Sounded pretty good (80% good, 20% drone)

Great work! Love the tyres. Is it worth the effort ? Did you notice any difference in throttle response. I'm sure 80% of drone would be eliminated if pipes didn't terminate under the car as I did the same thing to my p38 and once pipes were extended it sounded so much better

it's a wonder you can discern exhaust/muffler noise over the drone from those tyres?

Good tip Steinzy.
Guess I'll have to take it to a shop for some replacement pipes.

Worth the effort? Depends on if it sound better with the pipes extended. If not I think I'd put it back on and try the centre muffler cut out instead.

Although I would like to use all that new space for a fuel tank extension!

Hi new to the site. HSE 4.4 2003 But looking at doing the same thing, cutting out the rear muffler and fitting an extra fuel tank. What are the tyres you have on it?

As it didnt come with a manual of any sort. can someone send me a link for how to work the switches exspecially the heating/cooling.
thanks

Federal Couragia MT 275/65-18

Also to answer an earlier question, no increase in throttle response.

I have just had the centre mufflers removed and replaced with just pipe $100.00 sounds a lot bettermand improved econemy.

was quoted $1000 to have a full 2.5" twin system fitted from cat back, now that would make a big differance. Canberra
