Hello All you Defender Owners, i'm putting up my wish list in the hope for any advice you may wish to give a new Defender Owner ;) I'll go from front to back sorta.
A Front Bar something much stronger than the paper thin one they come with, I'm not really a Big Bull Bar type of guy just not sure what's out there on offer or who to buy from.
Having taken one for a test drive on Thursday the car did feel very soft & a little spongy when breaking so on the wish list is Koni Raid90's up on the front only i'm thinking the back should be fine i travel light anyway. So what do you think & who's the best to buy from to save on $
Rock/Tree Sliders (1) for Side Impact Protection (2) from Grots who slam doors up against other cars with no care (3) for what the are designed for protect from Rock & Tree rubbing up agains the 4B, Again Who's the best to buy from to save on $ OR have someone make em for me i'm guessing chassis mounted is the best option.
Snorkel, this one is easy the Metal Snorkel (Thanks debruiser)
Nugget Air Box Kit, this one is easy (Thanks again debruiser)
Cruse Control, again not sure what's out there on offer or Who's the best to buy from to save on $
Intermittent Rain Wipers, from memory reading threads hear. Buy it from a VW Wreckers, Model No: not sure guess i'll need to read em all again.
Floor Matts, any one type that offers better Lips on the sides to holds dirt mud sand ect.. i guess.
Diff Gearbox Clutch & what ever other Breathers are required to help protect when wading through water, am i better off buying this individually or going out & buying it in Kit form & again Who's the best to buy from to save on $
Tow Bar, this one is easy a RA0063 from Mr Automotive (Thanks Leroy_Riding)
What's this all going on a my14 Land Rover Defender 90 yet to be collected once they are finished making it, just for me ;)
So any advanced advice will be appreciated & i promise to put up Pics once i've collected it & put my "wish list" on it. Regards Rick.

G'day Rick,
I'm currently designing a tube type bull bar for Defenders, not too big and bulky. I'll post details in the Verandah when they're available.
The only sliders I've fitted to customers cars are the Mulgo side rails (http://www.expeditioncentre.com.au/online-store/vehicle-protection/mulgo-side-rails-for-land-rover-defender-90.html) which are a very good product. There's probably other good one's around but I haven't had any in my workshop so can't comment on them.
Let me know if you need anything for the rear of the 90 :D Defender wheel carriers (http://rijidijoffroad.bounce.com.au/#/defender-single-or-dual/4569741648) ;)
Cheers, Murray

If I was fitting Raids to the front, I'd fit them to the rear as well so you have both ends working together. I haven't driven a 90 but I would imagine some Raids in the rear would help reduce any tendency to bounce that the shorter wheel base might encourage. Had a similar issue with the 110 Hardtop due to a lack of weight in the rear.
They are a big shock and designed to last in the rough stuff (touring) so not much point having a bullet-proof front-end and a wobbly arse.:p
Should be able to get them for around $1500 a set, maybe less. Not much opportunity to save anything significant and it seems to be difficult to bring them in from OS, although some have managed it.
Suspension was the hardest thing to get right IME. Raids and the right springs sorted it out.
Anything Murray makes will be top-notch and worth taking a close look at. I have one of his dual-wheel carriers and it's a sensational bit of kit.
TerraFirma make a good set of sliders that are very well priced. Juddy sells those I think. Bolt to the chassis outriggers and easy to install.
I would have thought breathers would be standard:o Are they penny pinching on the Pumas?
Cruise control and intermittent wipers are for VW drivers, and that is where they should stay, along with all of the electrical and mechanical issues that VW drivers enjoy. They'll all swear otherwise but most tow truck drivers will tell you the truth...
So don't cross contaminate!
It's a Defender and you'll be surprised what you don't need when driving;)

I'd love some of these for mine... but $$$ are stopping me :(
Snorkel, this one is easy the Metal Snorkel (Thanks debruiser) No Worries
Nugget Air Box Kit, this one is easy (Thanks again debruiser) Thank Nugget not me :D
Cruse Control, again not sure what's out there on offer or Who's the best to buy from to save on $
Intermittent Rain Wipers, from memory reading threads hear. Buy it from a VW Wreckers, Model No: not sure guess i'll need to read em all again. Standard.... just push the lever down
Floor Matts, any one type that offers better Lips on the sides to holds dirt mud sand ect.. i guess. Have you seen the LR genuine ones? I have them they are pretty good at catching everything. I can get a pic if you like, mine are always dirty :p
Diff Gearbox Clutch & what ever other Breathers are required to help protect when wading through water, am i better off buying this individually or going out & buying it in Kit form & again Who's the best to buy from to save on $ Again Stock. Didn't your dealer show you anything :p
Tow Bar, this one is easy a RA0063 from Mr Automotive (Thanks Leroy_Riding)
Well, my ideas in Blue. I have a terriferma tubular A bar on mine... looks cool, but I wouldn't pair it with the same light guards as I have, I don't like the clearance and wish I could change them to something else... lets hope the bar never gets used.

In order:
Rova craft tubular bar from Mulgo.
Raids or Bilsteins.
Mulgo sliders.
Whatever snorkel.
Nugget, yep.
Cruise, meh might be useful for runs longer than 15,000kms in three weeks, I guess?
Wipers, meh.
Floor mats, meh.
Breathers are up high under the bonnet as standard - I just moved mine and added filters, but not a biggee.
Good luck - I just spent half the price of a new truck on upgrades as of today - another 20k and the truck should be almost done...

Got my cruise from Autron. Best addition yet for long trips. About 800 fitted from memory. Chose the dash mounted pad option rather than side stalk.
I wipers are standard

I haven't got any pics at the moment, it's all on cad in separate components. Similar tube size and general layout, but will have rounded or domed ends on the main bars. Will have brackets for driving lights as well as light bar brackets. Also, no hairline gaps between components for moisture to get trapped, and semi rigid chassis mounting points to allow a clamping effect for firmer mounting. Also, no upper tube on the ends as they get in the way of the extra lights on the SVX / Limited Edition type front, instead will be a holed gusset to brace the tubes.
Cheers, Murray
PS. Not knocking the Rovercraft bar, I think it's a great product and nearly bought one myself, but I like to design and build my own accessories if I can.

I agree his site showed off the quality of his work very well.

Ok ta i'll have a looksee.
I would have thought breathers would be standard:o Are they penny pinching on the Pumas?
I'm under the impression that it needs to be upgraded from standard if you want to drive through water, does the gearbox & clutch need them too?
Cruise control and intermittent wipers are for VW drivers, and that is where they should stay, along with all of the electrical and mechanical issues
Yes i can continually press the wipers but this will reduce safety while driving. Now you may not need Cruse Control but my Legs are not like they used to be after a motor accident this is why I'm asking what & where.
It's a Defender and you'll be surprised what you don't need when driving;)
I thought my wish list was very Basic rather than the Mr Accessories out there.

See link below, this is where I bought my Raids from. Current price is $1580. From memory there wasn't a lot of haggle room on the price and they had to order them in. Make sure you get the right sort, there are two kits, one for normal height and one for +2 inch (rear shocks are slightly different).

Another place I've heard good things about and who sell Raids is Top Performance. Would be worth talking to them and getting a price I suspect. These will be the guys to get advice from. They may for example suggest you'd be better of with just the Heavy Tracks. Dunno, but if you aren't doing a lot of off-road touring the Raids might be overkill.

i intend to Travel, go off road but no extreme stuff & of course water i luv water crossings :D

I had a Rovacraft bar on my County, and Mulgo rock sliders. I reckon if you are going to use the rock sliders for what they are, then the bar isn't going to protect enough (though approach angle is fantastic). I have both front corners dented for proof.
I have since move up to a full steel ARB style bar, and despite the slight loss of approach angle, am much happier, even in the harder four wheel driving I sometimes do. Next step scrub rails between bar and sliders.
Mulgo rock sliders are a very durable bit of kit and bolt to the chassis outriggers, mine take a hammering, plenty of paint missing from sliding along things but they are surviving well otherwise.

I don't have a 90 myself, but I've worked on customer's 90's.
As far as 'must haves' go, if you intend to do some serious travelling you might want to consider extra fuel tank/s as the standard 90 tank is rather small, and a bull bar for frontal protection (as well as a good spot for mounting lights, UHF antenna)
If you like water, fit a snorkel and make sure it's sealed properly......another member on here can help you with that.....Puma sealed air intake kit for Safari Snorkel (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/verandah/173502-puma-sealed-air-intake-kit-safari-snorkel.html) Also make sure your diff and gearbox breathers are set up properly.

I do not know if it changed with the 2.2 but the 2.4 has intermittent wipers, it is just not adjustable, I changed the relay for the type 99 one that allows you to program the interval. I find it really useful and use it all the time. There is a post on defender2 about adding the old relay to the rear window wiper to make that intermittent, but then I do not think the 2.2 has one anyway :D

ARB make a (Red or Black) Diff Cover but not for LR Defender Diffs:mad:http://www.arb.com.au/products/arb-air-lockers-accessories/arb-diff-covers/
What others options are out there for our Defenders that replace the cover rather than plate over the STD cover:confused: Links with images would be great;)

Had an Autron on the 110 and it worked well. Went with the Command 900 this time and it is excellent...and the fitter didn't spend the whole time whinging about how hard it was to fit.

They have also done a lot better job mounting the pad controller as well which appears rock solid. The Autron one which was also fixed with double sided tape kept coming loose and I eventually had to do some surgery to fix it.

You need to be a little clearer in your line of questioning :p
There's crap loads of bolt on diff guards out there if protection is what your are chasing:QT, Terra Firma, APT Fabrications, Bearmach, Dolium, White Tiger, etc...

->Protect<- But i would like a replacement cover like the ARB one rather than a bolt on the top over the tinny ones they come with. I thought my link pretty much shows what I'm after.
BTW What is the Name/Model No: of the Current Defender Diffs.

All models have a Rover front, 90s have a Rover rear, 110 & 130s have a P38 rear.
If you read my previous post you'll get a sense if why nothing like the ARB cover is available for these diffs - you're looking at a product that only works on a fundamentally different diff construction.
With the exception of some very rare alternatives, the over the top tinny ones are your only option.
Try googling images of Salisbury and Rover Diffs and you'll see what I mean.

The Rover type diffs, including the'P38' type in late model Defenders don't have a removable back cover like the Salisbury so you won't find anything like the ARB cover to suit.

G'day Rick,
I'm currently designing a tube type bull bar for Defenders, not too big and bulky. I'll post details in the Verandah when they're available.
So is there any news on this Murray?

G'day Rickoz,
I was just starting to read some of your posts in your wish list,
I was also thinking about my experience with diff guards,
Some diff guards may have clearance issues with the steering box sector shaft under axle articulation, with the right front spring compressed a front runner diff guard will hit on the steering sector shaft of most defenders running standard suspension and bump stops.
Also the diff guard that you reference from paddocks for the rear diff, PM147 is ok on early model defenders and 90's, but will NOT fit on TD5's and TDCI 90 models because there is not enough room between the diff and the fuel tank and the guard WILL puncture the fuel tank under suspension compression.
For the TD5 and the TDCI 90 models you need a specific rear diff guard for these models.
Regards,
Mike.

Anybody used them before that is a Real 4WD'er/4x4'er & not just a Traveler that happens to own a Defender, you know the type ;) So someone that does go through Creeks & Muddy Areas, so the Wrap maybe Wet till it dryers out from being too hot.

No matter what people say about the benefits or down falls of wrap, the way I see it, is yes there are benefits, but this comes from motorbike background, and it hides the problem of corrosion. If it's not wrapped you notice it and will fix it, if it's wrapped, you don't notice the problem until it's past the point of no return and you have to buy a new exhaust. It depends if you want coolness or visibility.

Hello All you Defender Owners, i'm putting up my wish list in the hope for any advice you may wish to give a new Defender Owner I'll go from front to back sorta.
A Front Bar something much stronger than the paper thin one they come with, I'm not really a Big Bull Bar type of guy just not sure what's out there on offer or who to buy from. Something like the Basic D44 Front Bumper.
Rock/Tree Sliders (1) for Side Impact Protection (2) from Grots who slam doors up against other cars with no care (3) for what the are designed for protect from Rock & Tree rubbing up agains the 4B, OR have someone make em for me i'm guessing chassis mounted is the best option.
Snorkel, this one is easy the Metal Snorkel
Cruse Control, again not sure what's out there on offer
Spare White HD Steel Rim & Tyre
Water Storage
More Fuel Storage (it is a D90)
Do i need a AirCompressor?
Anderson Plug
1or2 12v Cigaret Plugs
CargoNet
Do i need a Eaton eLocker (after warranty expires)
Do i need a better/extra Fuel filtration system?
Do i need a Duel Battery system?
Exhaust Wrap, will this help to reduce Heat?
Gullwing Windows
Rust Protection (Penetrol & Wax Stuff)
Shekels for the Front
Do i need any of the Underbody Protection
Do i need a Winch
So any advanced advice will be appreciated & i promise to put up Pics once i've collected it & put my "wish list" on it. Regards Rick.

G'day Rick,
That looks good, I like the black colour!
Also, it is a slightly different (newer) version than my two that I have, your one having the recovery point holes mounted down a little bit further,
This would therefore clear an ARB bar properly (something that someone else brought up in another thread) for shackle attachments for recovery.
Ben at APT makes some pretty good stuff.

Having used the Defender a few times now Off Road (4wding) i've noticed a noise like the Springs clicking back into place driving in & out of Deeper Holes, now I'm not sure if it's the front or rear yet i'll need to take more notice but anyway for those of you that use Dislocation Cones/Spring Guides ->
Question: Do Dislocation Cones increase your hight of the body/chassis at all?

Well for those that don't know the Answer, i've found out - No they do not increase our hight in any way.

Well thought i'd put my Front Grill on that i got back in Feb, yer slack i know. I got it all the way from N.Z.
Yes No Bumper i took it off a month or more ago thinking i'd have the new one Built & on But Still waiting for it to be Fabricated up
Now why i'm posting,
What is your preference for those of you that have come across this Thread -
The Left or Right side Headlight Surrounds?
The Left is a Original one that i've cut down & painted White back in May or June i think.
The New Right side is from a member here (Psimpson7) i got back in May or June, again painted white, the old used silver bit is from a member here too that i got back in Feb i think, i've just polished it up slapped some clear coat on it rather than painting it.

Since putting on the Series3 Stage1 Front Grill yesterday it looks like the Radiator is a little bit more exposed than normal so i've put on a Bug/GrassSeed Mesh Protector for when the times call to use one.

I was going to say the left hand side of the car (right as you look at the pic), but I see you've already decided on that one!
