My Series 3 has been off the road for a number of years, needing some TLC. It has been about 3 years since we last even started the engine. Now is the time to get her up and running again and re-registered. First step was to get it running:

The first thing to do is to fix up the rust. I figure if this is going to be a huge issue, then there is no point in fixing some of the other mechanical problems. The main concern is the rust shown below:

There does not appear to be any other rust in the firewall or footwells. The chassis is good. Anyone here an expert that can provide advice on where to go or who to talk to about getting this fixed? This is one thing that I cannot do myself.

Bulkhead repair sections are available quite cheaply in the UK, for example: DA4065O BULKHEAD TOP CORNER REPAIR RH | shop | www.lrseries.com (http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/4433/DA4065O-BULKHEAD-TOP-CORNER-REPAIR-RH.html'search=bulkhead%20panel&page=1)

Given that the car has had a respray at some point, you have to wonder what else is lurking under there. The best (and potentially cheapest) solution might be to find a good second hand series III bulkhead.

Thanks for the tip. I had seen the footwell replacement panels before but never seen other bulkhead sections. What are lrseries like for shipping goods to AU?

I guess the next step is to start stripping some panels off to get a better idea of the extent of the rust. Hopefully this weekend. If life does not get in the way...

LR Series are an excellent firm to deal with!

I think you will find it easier in the long run to take the bulkhead off, as with rust that bad I think you will find it in all sort of seams and crevices you haven't spotted yet.

However; having said that, when you weld the new door pillars in place, make sure that the bulkhead is temporarily in place so that the mounting bolts line up correctly,

I too can vouch for LR series - I buy most of my parts from them. Their postage can add up, but I've found it better than other UK firms and is pretty reasonable in the scheme of things. The best way to save on postage is to put in a big order and take the hit once.
