Would you go into your local woolies or coles supermarket wearing budgie smugglers or even the G sting bikini?
My sister livers at Rosebud in Vic and I stayed over night on friday.
It's the height of the terrorist season there at the moment, where people spend a month or longer camping on the foreshore, The locals call them terrorists and I can start to see why.
The illegal letting off of fireworks gets residents dogs going crazy.
The locals go shopping at the supermarket and have to see the back side of G string bikinis, ( if you've got the body then flaunt it) but I witnessed it:angel: in the supermarket and call me old fashion but it's not proper attire in My opinion, and definitely not budgies leaning over the meat counter:eek:
The Supermarket is always running out of stock so locals need to drive further a field to get stuff.
An incidence of a local who goes to a coffee shop every morning and has his own corner with a table and chair was told he was not welcome during the holiday maker season, he is taking up space:o A loyal customer, the owner will probably beg him to come when the summer rush is over and he needs a customer.
The traffic, especially since the holiday makers have there own road rules. It takes locals sometimes 40 mins to do a 5min trip.
The cops are kept busy enforcing the no alcohol in the open rule, and I witnessed that on friday night on a drive over a few kms past the sites, people walking down the streets sucking on mixed drinks and stubbies. Unmarked police cars and officers in plain clothes booking people left right and centre. I witness a lot of empty bottles being thrown over fences and along the foreshore, the drunken youth walking along the road holding each other up so they don't fall over.
The locals are left with the mess and clean up after the terrorists finally leave.
It was an eye opener for me on how people behave whilst they are on holidays forgetting that people actually live in the invaded area.
It's a long 2 months for the locals.
Kind feel sorry for the locals that have to live there.
I have never seen this behaviour at other touristy beach places, interstate etc. I might be a Mornington penisula thing???

I understand that tourists can carry on and upset the locals.

But I have to laugh when people that live in nice tourist based communities bitch about tourists coming in and spending their $. Most of these areas are only attractive to live because they are built on the tourist $, they are usually totally reliant on the money spent in town by these undesirables.

Bit like Airlie Beach, the locals bitched about jetstar/Virgin bringing in all the undesirables, then they bitched like hell when the GFC hit, then the aus$ climbed and all the aussies went overseas for holidays and their community sank with businesses going down, huge job losses and the biggest drop in property prices nationwide (Island homes were selling for less than %20 of their pre-GFC price, now they sell for half pre GFC price). They seem to forget that without tourist trade the town would not exist, or at best would be a couple of homes with no amenities.

For the record I live on the bay (in Brisbane) and every weekend my neighbourhood is an absolute **** fight with everyone coming down to the bayside parks for a cool breeze. Doesn’t worry me 1 bit, I figure if everyone is heading over here on their day off it must be a good spot...

And no, it is not right to go shopping in smugglers, but then again, look around, there's a lot of people who wear inappropriate clothing.

Yeah! we get the same up here in Qld as I live and shop on Bribie Island it is the same during "Terrorist" season, nothing worse than an ageing man or woman 65+ who is 10+ kilos overweight shopping in budgies and a bikini designed for somebody in their 20/30's :( but it will return to normal after the school holidays :) and don't start me on wet Feral kids running up and down the isles in their togs while mummy or daddy talks on the phone

I think the residents are getting a bit territorial to be honest. Its a reality of those types of areas which they dont like. Id say there is more to the bloke in the corner story too. I bet if the locals looked hard enough they could predict using a calendar when these types of paranormal occurances happen.

G-strings in the shops, thats crazy talk. Elephant smugglers... only when I'm leaning over the meat counter. :D

I used to find that a lot of the backpackers did this in Cairns. I bet they wouldn't do it in their home town. Another dislike of mine is when they sit in a cafe or restaurant with no shirt on. I might sound like a bit of a prude but there needs to be some standards.

Not prudish at all, I totally agree. Shirtless is fine on the beach, in the park or in the pool, but when I'm sitting down to eat, I don't want your sweaty armpits in my face thank you.

As to the OP, I also agree. Bikinis or budgie smugglers are not suitable wear for a supermarket. I've seen it a few times, and I've been tempted every time to grab something from the freezer section and tuck it down the back. :D

But I don't have a great deal of sympathy for those complaining about an influx of tourists. Wherever you get a crowd of people you will witness the best and the worst of human nature. The only way around that is to opt out. ;)

Same applies particularly to Jetstar and Virgin flights. I wonder why some of them even bother to dress:eek: (feet) thongs, string vests, poor body hygiene seem to be the uniform of choice for most of them. I refused to fly south for Christmas and drove instead ...

In the North West of QLD we call them "Tourons"! Tourist/Moron.
Nothing to do with them disrupting our lifestyle or anything like that & we appreciate the money they spend.
But leaving rubbish everywhere, riding Quads on the dunes, driving on closed roads, gripping because there is no bank/coffee shop/Myers or whatever, camping on private properties & just plain arrogance.
The above would only be a few % as most a great & considerate but the few does tend to tar all with the same brush.

A bikini is one thing, but a bit of rope in between bum cheeks is something else, at least days she shaves front and back.

The only appropriate place for Speedos (I loathe the term 'budgie smugglers', can't see why we need to be reminded of the existence of genitals so frequently) is whilst actually swimming in a competitive event. Most men don't need to be told that.
I have to wonder how long your friend has been living on the Mornington peninsula? I know of families who have spent every summer camping on the foreshore there for 4 generations. One of the many reasons that I would not choose to live there, surely most others have the same choice. Anti-social and inconsiderate behaviour is the norm wherever humans gather.

Is the same down the great ocean road. 25kph in a 100 zone and they wonder why I abuse the daylights out of them.

Asian tourists are by far the worst. They'll drive at 15kph on anything that is slightly twisty, and stop in the middle (literally) of the road to see a koala.

After 15 years of driving the coast road regularly, nothing suprises me anymore.

Interestingly though (probably demographics) Lorne's population goes up 3500 percent in the tourist season, but the generally are well behaved.

You will able to tell when that is, just look out for beached whale alerts.

The council has now introduced a ballot system this now stops the same people claiming the same camp spot year after year, this stops large groups camping in mob on the same spot.

With out stereo typing we get them up here in the hills, 1st you come across is a slow moving vehicle ,usuaslly a toyota ( vehicle of choice) brakes uneccessary on ever corner, holds up traffic behind, seems to be daydreaming, occupants usually a grand mother in back, a couple of kids and mother and father at the front. A red and gold laced chandlier of sorts hanging from mirror. So involved in their own cocoon and totally removed from any other road user. After enough is enough I trip the horn button., then the look from them in the rear mirror and the reality check that the road is not only their to use exclusively. Unfortunately you can now pick them and the correct guess rate is 9/10.

Hmmm.

Must be bad there.

Perhaps you should or shouldn't go to Bali to see more than a few dinky di, true blues and their little women and kiddies interacting with the locals...........

The only time my (then 16 year old) daughter told me that she was ashamed to be an Australian.

True, I think a few "Aussies" should be ashamed of their antics over there. It's said the the Balinese are lovely and Love Aussies.
I wonder what the Balinese truthfully think of Aussie Bogans
I think the Balinese only cop it on the chin for the tourist dollar.

I have always found it amusing that people who live in resort towns have the gall to complain about the tourists who provide them with their living.

On the Gold and sunshine Coasts it is quite normal for beach goers to walk from their holiday accommodation to the beach in their swim gear. If they happen to also visit the shops on their way to and from, so what.

LOL.
You would hardly call Rosebud and that stretch a resort town, mainly a lot low income people and pensioners live there, the grass on the foreshore is hardly a resort and they wouldn't be getting a living from tourists, only the shops. Go further South to Sorrento and Portsea where the wealthy live and have a go at them, they don't even like commoners walking on the beach in front of their mansions.
There nothing wrong with tourists as long as they behave and also consider others.
Anyway, I was passing on observations, I don't live there but my sister does, she's quite away from the fore shore , one of the poorer residents. But she is directly effected by hoons, yobbos, drunks etc. through no fault of her own. Not locals but visitors.
Seems some condone it's ok for other to inflict others privacy? and right to have peace. Like a bad tenant as a next door who plays drums all night , is that also ok?
