My whinge today was whilst trying to change the pulley on the front of the balancer - nuts aren't captive and a PITA to get to as you can only undo a couple at a time when they are at 6 o'clock so you have to keep barring the engine over - and I was on my own, so ended up pulling the pin and having a beer instead...
Actually, that is my biggest whinge of all - no captive nuts on ANYTHING!!!

I use a 2lt milk bottle cutting the top but leaving the handle on it. Work very well. :)

My fun thing today was getting a fully loaded 3 ton truck bogged in very soft sand on a friend's property....and then having to get it out. After 30 fruitless minutes digging and moving it a foot at a time, we ended up pulling it out with the neighbour's tractor.
If we had only started off a couple of truck widths to the left we would have been fine! Nothing like getting a sweat up, digging and crawling under a truck in 40 degree heat in the middle of the day! Ah well, them's the breaks.....

This thread could catch on. I have nothing to wing about today. I am currently sitting in the QANTAS Club in Townsville drinking G and Ts about to fly back to Melbourne to pick up the wife's car. I might have something to whinge about tomorrow in Melbourne's heat wave. I have a exit seat in the aisle too. No whinging about that.

I want to whinge about some of the utter garbage I read on this forum. Some of the Questions/statements are unbelievable. I know the poster doesn't think it's rubbish, but there are so many posts that appear to be there purely for the poster to get his numbers up. Why is it that people feel a need to let everyone know what's happening in their life. Also what's so difficult about looking up the www if someone has a non Land Rover related question (for example...not picking) best this or that, what's this, or my uncles brother in laws sister die, Immigration, boat people. Everyone has the right to say whatever of course but sorry folks I just don't get it, it is a Vehicle web site (not whining about the site, I think it's brilliant and has been very useful to me. Brilliant resource)
As I read just about every single post, it's getting harder to sort the wheat from the chaff. Does anyone else think we may have drifted a tad from original purpose of this site? As I said, I just don't get it.
I also don't understand why so many answers to questions are unrelated to what the OP asked. The posts regularly seem to end up with everyone talking about everything other than the problem at hand.
And please don't bother to say it. I realize it's my fault, I know I can stop reading or go elsewhere for info about LAND ROVERS. (This is a Land Rover forum, the banner says so) and yes I do go to the www for info on everything else NOT land Rovers.
Now having said all that I have done it myself, but that was in my younger days
There, that's my whinge for the day. Thank you for listening. :D
:soapbox:

My whinge is for Monday morning 6.30am.
Picked up me new car 1 week prior a 2000 130 dual cab. The start of the crappy hot week.
Fuel leak was repaired for the RWC. Obviously the in feed line to the regulator didn't handle the new part. Clip didn't survive.
It decided to dismount on Monday morning on the Monash.
Got off at Wellington rd. Fuel every where. I mean every where.
New truck I had no tools. I'm a total care member so call the yellow ute. He takes the top off. Gets me to crank it. Covers him in fuel.
He puts the line back in and says their you go. I've worked as a mechanic so gave it a tug to test the clip and it in my hand again. Lol he say I'll get a tow for you.
I know if I was in the bush I could keep it on. But I didn't do the work.
Get it home. Then do the horrible call to the repairer.
Oh well. What does this mean on a new truck? Will it have spooks in it now lol.

My whinge for yesterday...
When you spend money and put your faith in an Australian brand-name, you expect to at least get what you pay for. OK, so this pump was about $120 last year and it was around 40 or 50% off the usual price, but hey, I expect it to get close to doing what it claims to... The $60 SuperC one is still going strong. Slow, but pumps up to whatever pressure I want.
Bought it last year and have'nt needed it till now. Son wants to go beach-driving with g/friend and thought I'd check it out etc. Glad i did...
After 5 minutes I managed to inflate a car tyre from 24 psi to...... 40psi but no further, possibly due to leaking tyre-valve clamp but mainly the lack of pressure/air-flow. Even without the hose (and fitting) the pressure developed by this twin-cylinder "4WD Air Compressor" was nothing special at all...
Since the receipt it long-gone, thought I'd pull it apart and see if the piston valves inside were sticking or whatever. See the pics...Bear in mind that it's had less than 15 minutes use.
Lesson? - Don't bother with 'Australian' brand name stuff. Just buy a couple of smaller, cheaper evilbay clones. For 1/4 the price. - Could'nt last any less !
PS, the ON-OFF switch died after a couple of cycles. No reason to, as it switches a well-installed relay...

Scotchloks. Only legitimate use is for them to be placed on the reproductive tubes of the inventor
Add to that a lot of aftermarket wiring done with the same colour wire, where each wire is 5cm shorter than ideal.
Some people should just stay away from working on vehicles and be content with stabbing themselves in the forehead opening paint cans with a screwdriver.

With the LPG I heard ages ago that it was going up. Something was taken of the gas price which meant is was going up over time slowly but surely.
I told every one I knew but everyone laughed and said nuh. No it won't.
Since then I have seen it slowly go up.
It not viable to run it with the extra wear on electrics and engine.
It all doesn't make seance. They are screaming for us to use cleaner fuels but every thing that is good is pricey.

Owner tells me he has had head gasket repaired and the car overheated so he was told the head is buggered and that a new one is 850$ so he gets that done, i ask so you have replaced the head, he said yes. During the conversation he tells me that the receipts for all work are inside.
i drive car in sand, up hills, generally push it around and its fine. Buy car.
Drive a further week ok then presto overheating, check and guess what head gasket.
Decide at this time to check the receipts - no replacement head!
At 50 years of age you would think i would have learnt to check stuff before buying, bugger me going for a beer…..

My whinge for the day, Sydney Council and SDRO.
Parked my fiance's little MX5 over the road from my favorite pub (The Republic), in the same spot I always like to get. Rear bumper is about 2.5 inches past the no stopping sign.
Up to the sign was all blocked by road works, and the concrete barrier was almost in line with the sign, so I put the car back pretty close to the concrete block.
I figure no big deal I normally park the Disco there and hang it over a good foot, as I just figured as long as none of the wheels or a big portion of the car is past the sign shouldn't get a fine. Never have before.
Get back to the MX5, fine on the window , 260 big ones for parking in a no parking spot.
So I think ok, out with the phone, take a ton of photos from all angles and get in and leave.
I disputed the fine with the council, they sent back photos. I think great it shows the car is not in the no parking spot. Literally on the extreme angle it looks like maybe half an inch is past the sign, not even to the length of the actual sign itself. mind you the car is tiny also.
In the email it states that no part of the car can be parked in a no parking spot at all. Not in those exact words, I can PM it to anyone who wishes to see.
Respond with questions, and before receiving a follow up from them we get an increased fine from SDRO to almost 400.
Call SDRO, they say if you pay it now it can be on the old price, or on a payment plan you have to pay the higher fine and can do 20 a week. Oh and almost instant license suspension for my fiance.
My response was, if we proceed to payment of any kind it is an admission of guilt, and the car was not parked in the no parking spot!
I don't even know whether to get mad about it, it just seems so ridiculous.
Is that how the parking spots work, do you have to get out and stand on all angles to make sure not even a mm is not past the sign? Is the actual post regarded as the no parking spot? what about if it is on a lean?
The spot I am talking about it opposite The Republic on Pitt Street Sydney CBD.
Anyway, we will just pay the fine, shut up, and go back to being good citizens.

Spent a hour redoing the adapter lead for a car radio in a Discovery that I'm restoring. The wires were loosely twisted together and a piece of electrical tape wound each joint, most of the tape had moved with the heat and could have shorted out. :(
A nice looking, expensive radio, that may be ruined, I will try it tomorrow morning to see if it still works.
At least the joints and now soldered with heat shrink on them.

Actually it was'nt meant to be a'Political Statement', more directed at Coles who IMHO, are lacking in moral fibre demonstrated by them importing and/or selling a product from a country that heavily subsidises and protects its producers.... to the detriment of OUR producers.
Add to that is.... its made with Genetically Modified materials, and the safety has never been proved. Both your financial and literal health rights are being trespassed upon, in order for COLES to make a quick dollar.
I don' t see that as political.
Where it might get political is... the biggest biotech company in the US enjoy a huge measure of governmental approval and is fighting to prevent State labelling laws from demanding GM products be identified, as they are in Europe...and NOT in Australia.

Does anyone else seem to have problems with a particular dealership in Perth not being able to fix warranty issues properly the first time or when they say they are going to fix them? I have a 2012 Defender 90 and just seem to have a never ending story of them wanting the vehicle back to fix stuff they should have already fixed, and when they do repair something, it is not very long until they have to do it again and it should be easy fixes. For example the radio rattles out of place when I am driving and every time I take the vehicle back, I tell them to put the radio back in and most times it does not even last the drive home, it had a leak in the spout of the fuel tank which i told them about on the first service and they were supposed to do it on the second but I got a call saying they did not repair it as they have to drop the back end down and did not have time so they wanted it for another day, they swapped out the rear door latch because it was not working and had to be unlocked with the key and when I got it back, it wouldn't have lasted a week before it started playing up again. And now they want the vehicle for a week to pull out the transfer case to do something in there. It probably wouldn't be so bad if i lived in town but i live about 2.5 hours away and really can not afford to not have the vehicle for that long.

What is it with getting old?
First my eyesight goes down the gurgler and I am forced to walk around with a pair of glasses on a piece of string around my neck if I want to read anything smaller than a street sign.
Now Mrs Spud tells me that I have hair growing out of my ears, and thinks I need a trim :(

The next thing is needing a supermarket trolley even if you only want one small item.

Yes indeed, as we age our hair changes direction from North out of the scalp, to East/West out the ears and Southwards via the nostrils... :o:o:o
Which proves Evolution is .... wrong, - 'cos Theories can't have a sense of humour/irony ....

My whinge is.... a delilcate subject, butt there's no getting away from it...
Porcelain thrones (dunnies) that are'nt made to the same high quality (non-stick) as they were many years ago. Worse still, in our experience the surface gets, ,,, um,,, stickier over time, regardless of how it's cleaned. Case in point is our en suite which carries the name of a well-known Aussie brand.
Without being too graphic, the evidence of one's activities is all too obvious on the modern 'China' made in China... Did'nt happen to the same extent 40 years ago, - when they were made in Australia.
Not diet-related, as Wife and I have totally differant foods.
Naturally (!) this is'nt a subject of regular conversations, but anecdotal evidence seems to bear down on the inescapable conclusion that "fings 'aint wot they use to be"
Anyone else troubled by the tracks ?

:soapbox:
What was the question, and who started this bollocks anyway. I dont whinge and im a pom.

Petetheprinta, you are entirely correct. You just don't get it. Bob
