Guys
Has anyone had their series LR converted to coil springs?
I've heard only a little on the subject, and havn't had anyone with any real hard information on it.
Are there many places in Aust that do it? An how much?
I reckon I could make my SWB S11 into a 90 for a lot less than 46K style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Anything will help.

Don't know about price, could find out - but it's in Sydney.

Its an ex UK army vehicle - so bloody good chassis, currently has a 2.5 NA Diesel, 5 speed gearbox and full mechanicals - only 15,000 miles.

I know the guy will split.

If you are serious then send me an email and I can give you more details.

Damn you LRH, you've gone an thrown a spanner in my works :x .
I'm gettin all giddy just thinkin bout a 90 chassis.
At a guess I'd say he'd want around the 8-10k mark, which is realisticly out of my price range  Plus the other expences(Darwin's not a cheap place to send things) and the more I think about it the more I can imagine it'll cost me.
Thank you very much though, it'll keep me up all night thinking about it.

as I corrected, its a late 80's chassis - not a late 90's as originally posted.

I dont know the exact figure, but sure its much less than you quoted!!!

Sleep tight!!!

There's a guy in Melb who does coil conversions using 2nd hand Range Rover Diffs and Coils and suspension components. Last I heard he charged about $3,000 to do a conversion on a series landy. For that figure you got coils, disc brakes and a better turning circle. The Rangie has the front diff mounted on a slight angle and the uni joints are offset by 21 degrees. How the suspension and drive geometry change when you make this a part time 4wd I don't know.

The guy that does it is Antony, and he can be contacted at british4wd@bigpond.com

Thanks Michael2
I'll definatly keep that in mind, it now looks as though I've found a 90 chassis to do the job style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
But if all falls though it'll be the path I take.

Hi Larns, in case your 90 chassis falls through, but you decide to continue with a full chassis replacement, still try Antony, he imports quite a bit of Land Rover stuff including complete 90's. He's got ADR compliance plate licensing for importing 90's and fitting V8s. He may be able to give you some advice with the process.

Hey, Larns

AFAIK there was (or is) a mob in the UK who do series replacement chassis built for coils. This sort of job keeps your landie legally a Series II as the chassis are "replacement parts" not a basis for a new(er) vehicle i.e.: you keep the VIN as is.

The same applies if your replace your chassis with a brand-new galvanised one... (the PLAN when I move back to Oz)

The chassis are not cheap to import, but it would give you a solid base for the rebuild...
