Have got a VDO tac here that matches the style of the defender gauges .It has 8 wires no wiring diagram and i have no idear how to wire it.Unless someone can help will probably bin it:( The 52 mm gauges only come with alternator connection AFAIK no magnetic pickup:mad: Any help appreciated

What Defender Tdi ?
I had one in a Tdi and it just ran off the alternator and worked well.
Can't remember he wiring though.
If you're going to bin it send it to me instead

Just google the VDO model and you should find the wiring diagram.
Edit - The colours for a VDO I have are as follows
Red - constant 12v
Black - ground -
Brown - 12v battery switched
Green - Sender signal + (ignition coil or Alternator W terminal
Blue/Red - Illumination +

Thanks for replies I have googled it but every thing but the wiring gets a mention it is a A2C53210902 I presume it fits a ECU type engine as it is adjusted by computor:mad: Will probably hook it up and frig around with it if it blows it blows :(

Thanks for your efforts but as you can see from photo no terminals just 8 wires
I will email VDO and see if I get a reply but won`t be surprised if I dont

But the wires are colour coded for their function - get the decode for that and see how your go - I would use the colour code that I gave you - there are often extra wires that form no installation function - maybe a test function.
The basic colour code is common for all tachos.
When I had technical questions related to my tacho last year Janice.Jaksetic@continental-corporation.com (Janice.Jaksetic@continental-corporation.com) responded and said that the VDO Technical person Flavio would call and he did - I found them very helpful.
So maybe an email direct to Janice outlining the problem and maybe Flavio will give you a call as well.

Hey VT no success with my alternator so bought a new one New VDO 4000 RPM on ebay
$66 landed :D.It is a VDO rebranded Deutz about half the price of VDO available Aus.If you think you can use the other one Pm your Postal address
