I thought the standard series 3s had been replaced by the Stage 1 Series 3s by about 1980.

A nice vehicle but at that price you would really have to want it.

Correct, stage 1 was announced in 1979.

Though production of 109" continued till 1983.

A lot of money though.

The Stage One replaced the six-cylinder models. The four cylinder petrol and diesel Series 3's carried on til 1984/85. I'm sure you've noticed that a Stage One isn't identified as such on any of the ID plates. It's just called a Series 3 V8. The Stage One name came from the UK Govenment funding program to save Leyland Motor Corporation from financial ruin. The One Ten models could also be called "Stage Two".

Very nice car with a coffee-spitting price-tag. But it's not a Station Wagon. Those have five doors. That is a three-door Hardtop. The fold-up side steps are an option usually seen on Station Wagons, though.

You could still get the 2.25L engine while the stage 1s were produced. I am not sure if they were a special order though by this time
