Stupid question I know but on the side of the gearbox which is the inlet and which is the outlet for the oil cooler holes?

At a guess (nothing in the workshop manual), I would think it would pump from the lower (were the oil sits thanks to gravity ) to the upper ports . If you have a cooler and you really need to know which way it goes then disconnect a hose and see what happens went you start it.
