Bull bar for 2013 Defender

I live in roo infested country and having many near misses of a night time and need a bull bar before the inevitable happens. Looked at both the ARB and TJM versions but they also have the winch space in their design which I don't need. The new Land Rover bull bar is retailing for $1851 and looks nice and simple and doesn't detract from the appearance of the Defender. Would be interested in anyone's opinion if they have had one of these Land Rover bull bars fitted to their Defender.

I have a ARB bar and have had two hits in the past 7 months, traveling around Collarenebri and St George. Both were big Roos, at full speed (100k or so ) and both were T Boners. Jumped out from behind a bush stuff. The only damage from either hit was a bent number plate. Am happy with the ARB bar although IMO the powder coating isn't the best job I've seen and have painted a couple of joints that were not looking great.
I went with ARB as it was quite a few hundred less than the TJM. The current ARB bar also gives you two solid recovery points. Looks aside if you went for the LR bar you would be getting less for more.

I decided to go with ARB with my new Defender, as I have a ARB bar on my Suzuki Grand vitara that has taken three hits from roos on the highway with no issues,
Also I had a look at the LR bar and it does not appear to be as strong.

I put on a TJM bull bar to my MY12 110 Defender. The ARB bar lifts up at the sides and the TJM is straight, more like the standard steel bumper that is fitted. The TJM bar only weighs 55kg as well. The TJM bar has a winch mounting point (wanted this for future in case I want to mount a winch), but I have not mounted one and it look fine.

I have attached (I hope I did it correctly) a photo of it. I would go with what you thinks looks best.

I have the arb bar and have hit a too at 110kms only damage was a cracked head light. loved arb bars wouldn't even look anywhere else

Something to think about, from my crude measurements comparing the ARB non-winch and ARB winch bar is that the winch bar uses a thicker gauge steel. If Roo strikes are your concern a winch bar may offer you more protection.

I am pretty sure that ARB don't make a non winch bar for the defender.

I ended up going for the rovacraft tube bumper as I was going for something a little bit lighter than the ARB bar purely because I didn't want to upgrade to heavy duty springs once the winch went on………. ended up doin this anyway due to the eventual sag in the front end.

I would say personally, the rovacraft bumper is slightly sexier but the ARB does give more protection especially around the headlamps

To be honest, I didn't want a bar on the front of my MY2012 90 because it would spoil the looks, however, practicality won out and I fitted a TJM bar because hitting a roo would be far more damaging to the looks of my beastie than fitting a bar! The ARB bar sits too close to the front, and in fact, if you have the SVX grill, the ARB won't fit. The TJM does the job although it hasn't been tested in battle yet. Have had a few near misses with roos and emus, but am confident that it would live to fight another day

I have an ARB non-winch bar on my 2010 130. It's styled like the old ARB which is similar to the TJM shape (not the close fitting version in the current ARB brochure).

I made my comment based on a lunch time inspection of about 6 bars on a recent 4wd day. The ARB winch bar on GoldCloverLeaf's truck was a distinctively thicker gauge than mine and other non-winch bars.

Adapters for extending the chassis rails for fitting an ARB bar to Defenders, works with SVX style grills and headlights. (I strengthened mine a lot before fitting, didn't like them as they came).
