Hey all,

My 1998 110 has a leaky fuel filler. Im guessing it is the "cap". This is the second one to do so. The original was leak free for years and then started. I just took the easy option and got my mechanic to supply a new one. Probably aftermarket?? This one was ok for maybe a couple of years max…

Should I be looking for anything in particular that would be making the caps leak?

cheers

Fuel breather blocked and tank pressurizing?? Check the thread for damage. A CPC Commodore one will fit and is a cheap solution to see if it is the cap or thread. I have had one on mine for around 4 years now.

thanks Craig,

I take it the actual breather is in the cap itself. The breather hose just comes from tank and back into main filler. (just for filling IMO)

And by threads, thats the inside of the filler fitting where the two flat prongs inside the cap locate under? I can see what looks like some wear right at the end of the closed position. That is, it allows the cap to spring out a little compared to the rest of the thread. Not much mind you.

Also the big rubber coated metal seal in the cap looks a bit average.

I thought Id pull the cap down to check and clean. Of coarse I lost what was under the little black plastic rocker arm and no idea what it was ( I have found one little ball bearing, I figure a spring and one other component missing?)

It looks like I should probably replace at least the cap and filler neck fitting. The main hose could probably be done also as its original.

Will the Td5 set up mount up (i.e. are the hoses the same dia) I dont have to worry about the body side as mine is a tray back.

Is the Td5 set up better?
