I see the family of George Stinney a 14 year old boy who was executed in South Carolina 70 years ago could finally get another day in court . He was found guilty in 1944 of killing a 7 and 11 year old girls . He was a black teenager and they were white , the trial lasted less than a day in the town of Alcola . Does anyone know what the minimum age for capital punishment was back then . When I read this story my first thoughts were of the Steven King book The Green Mile .

Not sure what the minimum age for capital punishment was back then, or even the specifics of the case however going by the general attitudes in that part of the World, IMHO it was probably no better than a state sanctioned lynch mob done by the good O'l boys without their KKK robes on.

I read about the case, and how the appeal was being put together, and it does very much sound like you say.

The deputies apparently chose not to investigate any further, once they had their suspect.

A terribly sad case.

Sad, tragic. But what is the point of spending public funds dragging this up ?

After the elapsed time there is no way of collecting evidence to prove him guilty OR innocent now.

There was a murder in Melbourne quite some years ago. Early last century I think.
The clinching evidence was some of the murdered woman's blonde hair found on the suspects clothing. He was found guilty and hanged.
Amazingly, the evidence exists today. It was retested using modern forensics and found to be hair from a Labrador or something like that. I heard that story on LNL one night. I think it is in a book about various murders around Melbourne.

its a sad case if he were innocent. i know back then the fact he was just black was probably enough cause to convict him. people were super racist back then and that is disgusting. i guess if they prove he were actually innocent back then it would make the family feel a lot better in the fact they did not have an evil son. but on the capital punishment thing, if he did do it, then its nto sad at all he was executed. today i think they should get executed. there were the teenagers who brutally murdered the elderly lady in callington a couple years ago. if a young person cna do that at a young age, they in my books, are evil for life. they are broken people. no place in the world for evil humans. i am not a horrible person for thinking there is place in the world for capital punishment. they jsut have to be 100% positive they are who committed the crime. i also think the same goes for those who torture animals.ill probably cop a lot of backlash for that but some evil people in this world get away with little more than a slap on the wrist.

I happen to agree with you, but that is a discussion which is VERY polarised. There's no middle ground to be had.

so this brings up an interesting point...

If there was no doubt (eg Martin BRYANT or Julian KNIGHT type situation) would you be willing for these people to be executed by electric chair?

(Remember :-Lots of Australians now have solar installed (we have 47 panels) and get a rebate for the extra power they produce.)

If so, would you be willing to allocate say 10 units of your produced excess power to be given to the government for the execution?

That way its a green execution, and the government would actually offset costs of the process (maybe even turning a profit towards victim compo etc)

What are your thoughts??

What are your thoughts??It would mean that electricutions would have to be done at mid-day instead of the traditional mid-night, lest there not be enough power to raise an eyebrow hair!

There was a case many years ago in the UK. I was about a robbery were two teenagers while doing a crime , shot a policeman . The boy that pulled the trigger was under 16 , and his mate was older . The older boy was hung because he was the accomplice , were as the younger boy could not be hung as he was to young . Not sure of there names maybe someone can add to this thanks ..

This is a good point... is there anything really bad about midday executions?

it will save on shift penalties for involved staff, extra penalties for mortuary staff that wouldve collected him... and would be done in time for the evening news.

just gets better if you ask me...

If were doing midday, I put forward hanging. No power required, but who's picking up all the rotten tomatoes and dead fruit.
