Have just been watching the latest offerings from the Action crew. Yes, I buy the mag every month, mainly so I can see where they go. The scenery is usually awesome, especially when they do the "big trips".
They are up in NSW somewhere, Cessnock area, and as usual, two are towing trailers. The tracks are impressive, but whilst watching Steve in the Lux tow his trailer around, and how he tackles some of the obsticles  I'm a bit fed up
Going up, what seems like a fairly narly set of rock steps, he's managed to get the trailer airbourne
Glen has next turn, and you would'nt even think it was hard at all. No air under any wheel.

No wonder not soon after, they discover a broken diff in said Lux. Serves em right.

Its also no wonder why theres so many hoons out in the bush damaging the tracks to the max when they are all watching this stuff.

Whatever happened to his "Tread Lightly" slogan?

Its a Landrover thing he never understood, just quoted.

like

As slowly as possible but as fast as necessary.

their attitude is more

Why learn to do with skill and care what you can achieve with brute force and ignorance?

Hi

Couldn't agree more.

I've watched that Hilux driver Steve a few times and he's not much of a driver - too much throttle, too much wheelspin, no respect for his machine or the track.or his mates.. broken parts everywhere.. emergency trips to the mechanic--jeez.

I'd leave him there..really every trip he f..s the truck and track and he doesn't have to. Who pays the bills

That Hilux is setup to break things which is what it has been doing. Lift is too high and if you watch the front end it appears to have no travel left so it bounces over everything. CVs and front diff won't be liking it. You'd think they'd know better being the 'experts' they are.

The way he drove up that rocky section was just plain stupid.

I have a hunch that there are a lot of behind the scenes repairs we hear nothing about.

Not a fan of his driving style but I must admit I go pretty hard of-road but 99% of that I would tackle a lot slower than he did as it could have mostly been done without the loud pedal.

So for me to criticise him makes me a hypocrite to a degree but know where you're coming from.

is it just me or does every one else think Roothy laughs like Porky Pig? He also sounds like he's telling a story to the kids in play school.

Yeah Steve's a schmuck, what did he think he was going to achieve tearing up that steep slope with a trailer on the back? He had diff locks why not slow down and let them do their job?

Yeah, bit of a joke with Roothy always banging on about the tracks being locked off and then they go hooning around causing damage. Perhaps if they didn't promote reckless driving so much more of the tracks would stay open.

They started out much better than they are now. Roothy has been stooged and beguiled by most of his new "leeching"!mates. They keep throwing money at him to keep him giggling away like a school girl.

The mags and videos are now nothing more than massive supplier adverts and the "stars" are mostly rich industry knobs looking for 15 seconds of fame. Bunch of Boof heads.

Convert yourself to Simon and Miranda's 4WD TV stuff (think it's all on planet earth?) and stop wasting 10 bucks a month on that other mobs crap.

Unfortunately I tend to fall asleep watching 4wd TV. Tried to like it and occasionally has some good bits but is mostly a bunch of industry...knobs...out for a lame Sunday drive.

I dont condone the track destroying antics you sometimes see on the 4wd Craption vids but they are much better than 4WD TV as far as being watchable.

lift it, lock it, launch it.....it makes entertaining dvd's and sells magazines. The dollar is far more valuable and noble than the reality of trying to keep the place open and educate users to respect it. It's a mag pitched for beginners and dreamers really, and many do what they see.

Stevo is the great clean cut sporting cashed up yobbo. I don't think he has worked out why they bring him along yet. But it's best he thinks his promoting his trailers while having fun wrecking his car.
The real sadness in it all I think, is when NP's watch one of these dvd and identify the track, then assess it. It gives them all the fodder they need to close, restrict, or start management plans on the area to do so.

I wrote a letter to "the action" requesting an article the other day based on a camp fire thread on this forum. To date I have not received a word back from them. I'm still hopeful, but I also expect to see bad behaviour around camp fires for a long time yet. As I have seen in a dvd, even 'the action" break camp and drive away with a smouldering fire left behind.

Yes, unfortunately I'm with you there Jason.

I have just finished reading....last night in fact.....4wd actions Simpson Desert 'freebie'

I noticed in most articles vehicles being driven with massive wheelspin , airborne launches on the crests of dunes...

And my pet hate in the Simpson.....large campfires being obviously fed from local trees and shrubs.....you can clearly see it's not timber they have brought in with them.

Another point is continuous reference to having quantities of beer on hand....I know a lot of us enjoy a drop but we don't talk about it all the time.

I think this magazine needs to consider it's public representation of 4wdriving , camping and hooning responsibilities.

Maybe it's why we have so many knob-heads destroying what we love.

Steve has copped a fair shelacing on the mdc facebook page. Unfortunately for mdc it hasn't sunk in given their responses. Rest assured is not just us that are getting tired of their antics!

TBH I think the rest of the blokes can really drive, especially Hadden and Jamie ( always thought he'd be on the forum. ..). One thing I do respect Roothie for is that twice he's made the call to turn around because they're doing to much track damage.

In a defence of Steve, rightly or wrongly, he is not there to preserve the environment. His company is a big advertiser on the mag and he is there to sell trailers. The Hi-Lux is a company car bought to be bashed to demonstrate the toughness of the trailer. Met him once and to quote "There is no way I'd drive my own car like that".

That Steve is certainly giving the NPs plenty of ammunition to close tracks because of the behaviour of boofheads.

I'm no expert, but I've towed a camper with my locked Disco up plenty of tracks, including the OTT, and I doubt if its ever been airborne. I try to ease up it with the minimum wheelspin, which is just a sign of poor driving, I reckon. The other guys on those DVDs are more responsible.
When its your own truck, not paid for by a company, you don't want to break things unnecessarily.

I do enjoy their travel stories, but the yobbishness, while entertaining, is not a good look.

Don't be so hard on yourself. I'm sure, with experience, you'll get better.

I agree..the way the Hilux is setup like makes it unsuited to the terrain they are driving...IFS rigs are weaker in general..:)

4WD TV is okay, I not a avid watcher of it but it can get boring. I still subscribe to 4WD action, have been for 15 years since the early days and still get some value out of it (need something to read when sitting on the dunny!!).

I do like when Jamie rocks up in the 130 Defender and does all the tracks with a lot more care and thought than bash it up there and hope. But most people like the former, the latter is too boring for them and it's a Land Rover, what good can come of that!!

My truck is a work truck, I'm not selling trailers but I don't ever feel the need to drive it like I stole it. Regardless of whether I can claim the repairs as a tax deduction.
Caved in corners on tool boxes, jockey wheels being ripped off, wind down rear support arms bent beyond use doesn't indicate a tuff well thought out trailer generally I think.
