Hi all my trip around Australia is getting closer and still chipping away to finnally finish camper and car.
One thing that has been troubling me is tyre size I'm currently running the stock size of 255/55/18 I'm up for new tyres on the car but want to keep this size as I have the matching set on the trailer a total of 9 tyres. Will this tyre size in ATs be ok for areas like the gibb and cape like everyone I would like that extra size up in tyres for that bit of clearance .Although i would prefer to replace 5 rather then 9 in a new size.
Thanks kim

You don't say what car you have.
If it is a Discovery then you have quoted the wrong size tyres - should be 255 x 60 x 18.
A good tyre size for round Australia trip is 265 x 60 x 18 slightly larger but not to the point where they will affect anything, but more importantly it is available in better choice of tyres & is a more common size as Toyotas run them.

Hey Kim - you might want to check the tyre size on your D3... 255/55R18 are the size fitted to older RRS, and are undersized for D3! The standard size should be 255/60R18.
A few friends have Bridgestone D697 in LT265/60R18 and they are very tough. I don't think you'll have problems on GRR, etc.

I've got a 2007 disco 3. Yes it does have the 255/60/r18 don't no why I wrote 55 long day!
If I go to a 265/60/18 on the car then got a couple of blow outs. Then fit the smaller 255 spare from the trailer.that shouldnt affect the running gear.
My whole plan is to have 3 spares 2-car 1 c
(Think I'm only making sense in my head haha)

Yes it will, you can not fit 255-60 and 265-60 on the same vehicle.

What Tombie said. But decent 2nd hand 265/60R18's are fairly common (try Kewdale Secondhand Tyres), if you want a cheap solution for spares.

I have 265/60/18 on my D3, and these tyres came off a toyota landcruiser and believe prado are the same.
Go with a size where you have options of more tyres, like the 265 you will be able to get a replacement easier if needed.
255 seems to be less common.
