Does anyone know much about these?

Pro's / Con's?

Now that the auto conversion is off the table I am wanting to lighten the clutch on my, MY12 Defender Puma 2.2

Any thoughts/comments appreciated. Cheers. :)

There have been quite a few positive posts on this unit on AULRO. I haven't heard/ read any negative comments. I thought they were an Aussie invention?

Regular gym visits with lots of leg presses. You'll hardly notice it then.

The booster might outlast the clutch :D

Even my wife with MS doesn't winge about the clutch in my 2012 90 defender and that's probably the only thing she doesn't winge about. If yours is that heavy Babs get the dealer to check it out on warranty maybe something wrong . Or like others have suggested get down the gym and start leg presses.:)

If you do fit one Babs let us know how it goes because I would also consider one...later down the track (why not if it does make it even lighter)

and we shouldnt judge people for all we know Babs might have a corn on his toe or perhaps his clutch leg missing.:D

At a Guess you must have something wrong with you clutch system if you need to lighten it. I test drove one for a short time not too long ago to see if I could press down the clutch before i'd lay down the $ to buy one, It's Clutch is no Heaver than my RAV's Clutch.
Why do I say you have a problem I'm a cripple (almost) if I can drive around pressing a 2.2L Defenders clutch down -> anyone can. Mate get it checked out.

put your big girl pants on? :D

On a serious note, if the clutch on a Puma feels heavy, there is something wrong with it.

Several peeps have fit the Lucas remote brake servo (1:1.6 pressure ratio IIRC); I've read only positive press on these.

Lol lol lol you guys are killing me, I'm having a good laugh. :)

Squats! I full squat ass to ground 130/140kg I'm no pussy. Actually that's when I feel it most, a couple days after a leg work out.

It's definitely heavy, I had it in for service with DPL yesterday and he gave me a loan defender which had a heavy duty clutch and it was like butter, I didn't want to give it back, I actually enjoyed driving that old clunka instead of my fancy pancy Puma. The clutch was a breeze.
When I got back in my puma it was a momentary struggle to push down the clutch. So if you guys don't think they are heavy I have obviously got something wrong with mine.

Tues Mulgo is fitting my new ARB Bar I'm going to drive his defender to compare?????

That's why I was looking at an auto conversion or moving it on completely to go back to a Patrol auto. But if the clutch was anything like BD's old clunka then I would not have a problem with the manual.

Some Nissan Patrols have a small booster on the clutch. I don't know how difficult it would be to adapt one of them, but food for thought.

Sounds like you're a contender for the left footed arse kicking contest ;)

Should have had a sit/drive in the other Landies earlier in the year!

I have seen Series Land Rovers with a booster from a Coaster. I had a 2A which nearly needed two feet to push it in and did consider it. The next 2A I had was as light as wifey's current Suzuki Swift.

My tanks are awesome but recently found if you drain the left completely by itself and leave the right full you cant refill the left until you empty the right. Confusing yrs so always empty both together as I have always done previously.

I find they are very hard to fill with high flow pumps. It is much easier with the skinny nozzles. I need airbags in the rear springs to handle the extra weight of dual jerry carrier and an extra 80 litres of fuel.

About 35 years ago I saw an MGB owned by a one-legged man that was fitted with a cable operated brake booster to operate the clutch. The cable was operated by a lever on the gear lever.

Must confess I saw these in LRO and then thought that my 5 foot nothing wife has no problems with the clutch in the 300tdi 110 or 90 and she drives them most of the time. Well pretty much all the time.

So moved on and kept on reading the mag.

What is wrong with you people?

Anna Meares can manage a single leg press of 225kg.

The Puma clutch would surely be a bit lighter than that.

Ok I can surely say there is a problem with my clutch.

I have been driving Mulgos 2.4 Defender the last couple of days and his clutch is definitely lighter. It could still be lighter still but definitely lighter than mine.

Daniel (mulgo) confirmed that the clutch is definitely heavier than what it should be.

So off to the dealer for warranty.

Does anyone have any ideas why it would be harder than normal? And no, there is no noises coming from the gearbox etc. :)
