Defender Door Mirrors

I'm considering getting a couple of these Defender Door Mirrors (https://www.lrdirect.com/MTC5217-Mirror-Arm-and-Head-90-110-Rh-Lh/'sfi=MTC5217&keep_https=yes) for DaOot but the description mentions that the hinges need to be changed.

Will the mirrors fit on these?

No.

You'll have to change the hinges. Series 3 hinges will bolt straight on.

If the mirrors you buy are like the ones I got you will need to either buy top hinges that are predrilled for the mirrors or drill the hinges yourself. There are two holes required that allow two bolts to pass out through the hinges (from the inside of the hinge) to mount the mirror.

Edit: If you go down that path, choose your hinge supplier carefully. I have several sets here because I bought from suppliers who produce hinges that have a LOT of lateral movement around the hinge pin.

I did this for both my Series 1's. For the 107" I made the bracket shown at top left in this photo:

Then bolted through with longer bolts through the existing hinge:

The bracket is held off the hinge with spacers made from galv tube:

Looking at the Series 2 hinge you could fabricate a similar bracket to pick up off the hinge bolts on the door. I jut used odds & ends I found in the shed, end result is I can see exactly what is behind now - think I liked it better when I could just hear the big trucks & not see them stuck on my tail:(

Paddocks list a Defender door mirror kit for 2/2a.
No pictures to explain how they're attached but the kit includes 2 hinges & fittings.
Maybe get in contact and see if they can send a picture (please post it here if they send one)

Here are STD mirrors fitted to Series 2/2a 'mirror top hinges'. Not sure how Defender mirrors will fit so I'd be interested to see a picture.........
