ok, I have my cheapy ebay folding solar panel kit. It appears that when one panel is shaded, charge disappears altogether.

I was under the impression that when two panels were joined in parallel, a diode is fitted to the positive lead of each panel, little white band towards the controller.
The panels as supplied are wired in parallel (Both + and both - joined at the controller), but the diodes are fitted across the + & - terminals of each panel, white band towards the + terminal.

Is this correct or should i rearrange the diode setup?

Cheers
Rick

I believe that is correct.
