timing belt change 300TDI 98 deefer

Hi,

Selling my loved 98 defender :( due to lack of use but it could do with a timing belt change too for the new owner or just incase it doesn't sell for a while, regardless its due.

I havnt done one before but am very confident with motors so is it an 'easy enough' "good part of a day" type job or something that can go terribly wrong and requires specific land pullers etc?

Alternatively who are good, reasonably priced (haha yeah land rover and reasonably priced labour) in adelaide that could be recommended?

Do a search on this site, there are any number of "how to's" regarding timing belt changes. I was quoted about $700 for a belt change and ancillary bits and pieces while it was apart from TRS. I ended up doing it myself no major dramas.

Yeah just found a good one with some crack up 'bush mechanic cheats' that ill be trying. Love some of the ingenuity on here, priceless.

It's not an entirely necessary part of the job, but if you take the radiator and intercooler out it makes it a bit easier.

It's a good chance to take the radiator to a radiator shop to be properly rodded and the intercooler properly cleaned as well while you do the hard work.

Similarly, while it's not necessary, while you have all that off it makes the water pump and "P" gasket replacement a lot easier if you choose to do them as well.

As pete says - there's heaps on here about it.

Be ready for bolts to be stuck.
