camping with your dog

this came up on another forum a while back and got a lot of noses out of joint because no matter what a person's view was....they were always right.
interested to hear your views. without the thread getting emotional

i personally have 3 big rotty x mutts, the youngest one hasn't been camping yet but the other 2 absolutely love it. there was a spot we used to go to where the dogs could run around as much as thgey want with out being able to get out of sight. this was on account of the leader of the pack, our female, doesn't (or didn't) swim and we found that the rest of themwouldn't go anywhere unless she did. if we wanted them to stay close, we would just tether her to the camp and the rest would hang around. we would always be careful though, not to let them run around when other campers were around as not everyone loves our dogs as much as we do.

G'day all,

Yep, I always tried to bring my dog along with us when we went camping & 4WDriving! (when it was posisble - depending on where we were going to)

He loved it! Always did (even the 2-3 hour car trip to get there and back)

He has since passed away this year, but if he was still with me - he'd be coming on the next trip!

So long as the owner of the dog is responsible - they should be able to go most places with you (excl-National Parks of course)

I have a 14 year old chocolate (and grey ) Kelpie, that is the smallest member of our house.

If at all possible he comes with us .

As long as the dogs are well behaved and the owners have some form of idea about the comfort of other campers, because nothing is worse than sitting down to dinner and having some arseholes dog trying to eat off your table and when you find some of the larger breeds taking great interest in your children.
Apart from that or other similar things, no problem at all

Always try to take my dog(s) when camping if possible.

Currently have 2 year old male back labrador (Toby) and getting another, currently 6 week old chocolate bitch labrador (Charlie).

Anyone got some good tips for someone who doesn't have time to spend too much quality time with their puppies?

We don't own a dog because our yard is way too small. That doesn't mean we don't like dogs. We're cool with them as long as they don't make niusance of themselves like constantly wanting to jump up. I haven't met a dog yet that doesn't like a good scratch on the top of its chest! Turns 'em into sooks every time! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif My personal taste is towards larger dogs rather than the littlies, but I do love them all. 8)

I haven't got a dog at the moment coz I haven't got a fence....but give me time...

Camping with dogs can be great, but there a times to leave the pup at home. National Parks, of course OR when your dog is likely to **** off other campers.

I saw a good book the other day listing places that welcome dogs (camping and other holidays). There should be more of it !!!
