Hi Folks,
Can I take the SIM from my telstra phone (next G Z-something or other) and stick it into my iPad4 when I need to get stuff from the web into my iPad and there's no WiFi nearby?
I only need this capability occasionally. I don't want to put the SIM into my iPad permanently as using the iPad as a phone is awkward.
My phone Plan has sufficient capacity to cope with occasional use like this. Just wondering about the electronics...

You should be able to set your phone up as a wifi hot spot for the iPad to link to. That way you will not have to gin around pulling cards from one device to the other.

If you don't have a handbook or the menu system for you phone is not easy for you to work through you can google you phone make and model and setting as wifi hot spot and you should get all the info required. Make sure you use a password otherwise anyone else will be able to use your download capacity.

I use either wi-fi or Bluetooth to connect my Telstra iPhone to my iPad 3

Yup, just set the phone up as a wireless hot spot, and use the sim that way.

If you really want to swap it out, then there is no difference in the sim's, and it should work ok.

The only consideration is, the physical size of the sim. I know the iPhone uses a smaller sim, as do some Androids, however the tablets possibly need a full size sim.

I'm pretty sure that iPad 4 uses a micro sim, not a nano sim.
A micro sim is smaller than a full size sim, while a nano sim is smaller again.
As others have said, using either Bluetooth or wifi hotspot if your phone is capable is probably the easiest way.

Thanks Folks, That looks like the solution I need. As someone says, it saves mucking about with the SIMS going in and out. And anyway, it looks like my sim in the phone is too big for the one in the iPad.
I'll have a crack at this and let you know how I get on.

Isn't technology these days amazing....?

(When it works, that is.. :p)
