Hi Hans. Yes, VDO does make a fuel pump for the TD5 Deefa. My original pump had done around 280,000km and I thought I'd do some preventative maintenance and fit a new one, 'cause I do a bit of outback travel and don't want to be caught short in the middle of nowhere.
Nearly died of shock when I found the LR price for a new pump. Ended up getting a VDO unit from the UK much, much cheaper.
I did a quick look on the 'net today and the part number is WFX000260G (I think the "G" means it is an OEM part ie: VDO make the part for Land Rover.)
My VDO unit's been in for 55,000km now and I keep my old one as a spare.
Where to buy? Google the part number and try places like Island 4x4 in the UK. Maybe Hobson Industries (they upgrade Defenders for army use and pull out a number of parts then sell them quite cheap - new but not in the wrapping. Maybe they have some pumps.)
Don't forget to replace the O ring seal.
And if you have not done it already I would highly recommend fitting a Mulgo fuel pump easy access hatch, rather than lower the fuel tank to replace the unit. Just check the fitting dimensions in the Mulgo instructions against your Deefa's actual dimensions, as my car was different to the intructions (but mine's a year 2000 so might be slightly different?). Mulgo makes a good piece of kit and it's easy to fit. Cheers, Dan

Forgot to mention that I have a long range fuel tank, which might make a difference with the pump location under the floor.
Also, if you cut the flooring to fit a Mulgo hatch, this is a good opportunity after removing the pump to get your hand inside your fuel tank and clean it out. I don't let mine get near empty if at all possible but there was still a fair bit of that gunk that builds up in the fuel. It was easy to clean out, although you can't get to every part of the tank.

Thanks dan for the reply
Yes been on www and found vdo pumps in great Britain
I too have long range tank and already fitted the excess hole ( thanks mulgo )
This will be my third pump the original lasted 12000km and started screaming So I decided to replace it before it breaks down
Fitted new one. Not sure who the manufacturer was but lasted about 12 month before too started to squeal but mainly when tank went below half capacity. They haven't broken down but I have lost confidence in them Hopefully the new one will last a bit longer Thanks again
