2013 Discovery electric steering column

Hi my new Disco 4 has the electric steering column option and I'm wondering how to make it work like the book says something along the lines of seat and steering column moving to make it easier access, I have the column knob set on auto and when you start and turn the car off neither move? Is there something I'm doing wrong or does it have to be set up? Can someone shed some light if they have had the same issue?

I don't have this in my D4, but in a previous car (BMW), my recollection is that you programmed your seat and column settings in to memory and somehow associated this to a key. Same for wife's settings to her key.
When she unlocked the car with her key after I had used the car with my key, the seat and steering column reset to suit her. And vice versa.
If she used my key, she could push a memory button on the door and it would go to her settings , but I' have to reset next time I used the key by pushing my memory button.
Also recall that the steering column retracted when the car locked, and moved to correct position when ignition started?
Make sense?
But that's my old BMW, probably nothing like LR.
I have had to resort to reading the manual and revisiting it with my new D4.

Hey mate
I have it on my 2010 d4. It only pushes the wheel up to a certain hight and the seat back to a certain position. So, if you have your seat back a fair way and the wheel set fairly high it won't do anything. With my wife's setting where she has her seat forward and the wheel down, with the switch set to auto it wil push her seat back and raise the wheel to make it easier for her to get out.

Thank you, I've had it on my one of Lexus' before and it did the same thing but this doesn't seem to work the same way haha

Hmm thanks for that i might have to mess around with it and see what i can get it to do my seat i think is a fair way forward but the wheel is up to the full height so maybe that is doing it, i do remember my Lexus wheel used to slide towards the dash but i guess this one just lifts up!! Ahwell

Thanks Sneigy i have tired that moved the seat forward the wheel down and set it as a memory setting even and yeah none of it works at all, doesn't move the wheel up or the seat down or back?

Don't forget that both keys can have a different seat setting.
Change remotes & program a stupid setting like all the way forward & column out & down. Then swap keys & let the system do its job the change keys again.
Should all work fine.

Change remotes & program a stupid setting like all the way forward & column out & down. Then swap keys & let the system do its job the change keys again.
Should all work fine.

Thanks for that Sneigy i did raise the seat and lower the steering column and got it working unfortunately i have the wheel raised up and the seat lower so its no use to me but oh well, thanks for your help much appreciated.

Have memory seats, but don't recall the seats changing when my wife opens the door. I did ask at delivery, but the salesman didn't know.
Does keyless entry change things?

Keyless entry doesn't change anything, just another great feature.
Just make sure that both keys are set at different settings.
They do work as i have set many many vehicles up.

I've gone through the manual, and I can't see how to set each key up with a seat position. I currently have to press the memory button to get there. Is there anything special I need to do?

Doesn't it happen like magic ... That is - open the car with key A - programme seat memories. Take key out lock car go away to let it sleep (just to be sure) then grab key B and do the same ... Voila

Tried to get it to work with keyless entry. Opened the door with my wife's key close by, my key out of range, then set set to Memory 2. Got out, locked door.

Opened car with my key close by, wife's key out of range. Set seat to Memory 1. Got out, locked door.

Then repeat opening with wife's key, but seat didn't move to Memory 2 position. What am I doing wrong?

Does the TFT display say "Memory Position Saved" ?

:eek: disappointing, unless it was at a Holden yard, but as you mentioned delivery I'm gonna assume it was a LR dealership, maybe that should go in the research section for dealerships and technical ability/experience...or lack thereof.
