Hi gents....have enjoyed developing my knowledge through the forum. Excited to be picking up my Corris Grey MY13 this Saturday....can anyone give me some advice or their experiences on aftermarket window tinting. How much and or recommended suppliers.
Cheers

Did the research, went with Tintmart, Black Pearl 35 tint.
Professional, super clean shop and installation area.
Happy.

I went with tint ur ride. Happy with the job. I had them install 15% from b pillar back and 35% on front two windows. Darker tint helps kids sleep on longer trip

I got mine done at MLR. Sniegy (on this forum) organised it. Less expensive than I thought and a great job.

I did it through main dealer at Artarmon and was v impressed with quality for the price of $550. If only I could say that for all the things they do ;-)

I recently got a brand new Disco 4 and got all the talk by the dealer about how good their tint is but did my own research and ended up settling for 3M Crystalline tint being a 3M product knew it would be good it was a bit dearer but it is non metalised which doesn't interfere with radio and phone signals also its really surprising how much cooler it keeps the car than my other cars! Cost me $600 cash fitted which i thought was reasonable. Apparently rejects 60% of the heat and i have noticed how much cooler it stays all the time. Also being 3M they make it all in house the glue the tint the whole product.

I have gone with aftermarket tints for all my cars and stuck with one brand that has done well for me, but since you have so many choices just look for somewhere reputable with a lifetime warranty on both the tint and the workmanship.

PM Sniegy... He has a contact who does the MLR vehicles

PM Sniegy - he organised mine last to Discoveries & my sons.
I recently purchased a Ford Kuga for my wife & Sniegy's contact did that to.
For dealer accessories person was a bit peeved and made some smart comments - I told her the contact does $250,000 cars and she shut up.
The Ford Dealers price was ridiculous.

As for a price reference point, I had my D4 windows tinted last week with 3M Colour Stable 35. It cost $249 and comes with lifetime film and install warranty. It cost $350 for my D3 to be done with the same film.

MLR have organised tinting for me in the past on a Defender. The price was very good.
I now have a D4, been thinking about tinting the windows, but with the ariel on the rear side window does the tinting affect radio reception ?.

Rob from Hunters Hill window tinting.
Have a look at this thread on this VW Forum.
best window tint business? - Page 37 (http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f112/best-window-tint-business-40510-37.html)
Rob doesn't mind if you want to wait and chat with him while he is doing it. After seeing him work, I wouldn't take mine anywhere else.
Happy days.

Read the first paragraph on this page:
Color Stable Automotive Films - Tinted automotive window film for cars, trucks - Color Stable - 3M US (http://solutions.3m.com.au/wps/portal/3M/en_AU/Window_Film/Solutions/Markets-Products/Automotive/Color_Stable_Automotive_Films/)
I had no problems with reception on my previous D3 or my current D4.
There are stories of signal issues when using metallic films.

And they're bollocks IMO!
I have a very nice black metal based film (maximum heat rejection and block out was my request) and the D4 radio works excellent - even out here in the sticks!!!!

It seems Rob's business has grown since he did my Skoda Yeti.
https://www.facebook.com/HuntersHillWindowTinting
Looks like he does a few Bentley and Lambos.
I think he used Solace? I remember it was colour matched with different darkness. From memory, I got 35% on the from windows, 16% on the rear door windows and back window and 10% on the wagon side windows. No one has picked that they are different yet but if I open the doors and point it out then you can see it's different.
Happy Days

MLR Tint on the beach in SA.
Darkest legal on front windows.
Works well, keeps heat out, keeps out prying eyes.

Drew them up from the originals and had them cut by a mate with a vinyl cutter...

Hopefully still slightly related topic .... aftermarket tinting or factory privacy glass?
I'm hearing the privacy glass has no UV or heat rejection properties, and already lower than legal limits so matching the fronts might be near impossible (legally).
What would everyone recommend? non-privacy glass and aftermarket tint all over, or privacy at the back and aftermarket at the front to match (legally) ?

You've answered your own question...
Privacy glass has no benefits in our climate..
Even lighter tint will reject the heat.
WRT: Privacy glass on front windows is still legal - as it's factory fitted...
In our climate, the benefits of film based tint far outweighs the simple darkness of factory privacy glass.

Unsure of what brand, it's a very dark metal based tint.
It was installed by request through MLRs tinting contractor.
It's not compliant with SA regulations though, by a long margin!

Those are actually really good prices. Who did the work if you don't mind me asking?

My wife's Kuga came with factory privacy tint.
Tony from MLR managed to match the front windows with the back while still remaining legal & then put clear UV & Heat tint on the rest of the car.
Works very well & we have had the weather to test it in Melbourne.

My S2 Disco had factory privacy glass, I did the same as Chuck, (when I bought it 2nd hand), tinted the front 2 windows and clear UV protection over the back and wagon area. I can't tell the difference, very well matched. Don't get privacy if you can help it. They charge you a fortune for it then you still have to clear 'tint' it if you want UV protection!

Thanks - nice looking car.
Sorry to drag this back up again, but there's nothing I can see in the regs about tinting or not sunroof panels ... I found some previous chat on here about shattering sunroof maybe/maybe not related to tinting, however the question is, is it legal or not to tint sunroof panels?

Yes it's legal to tint them...
Yes they will explode if you DO...
Kind of makes it moot really :)

That is what you have to be careful with.
When doing a roadworthy here, they check the tint and if it is not compliant,it all has to come off....:(

Saw them on TV last year while doing a drug raid.

All police Acts have legislation to exclude police from certain laws under certain circumstances. AFP don't need to register there vehicles but they do it to look good in the eye of the public.
I think SOG would have good reason considering some members of the public might freak out a bit if they looked in the window and saw a few guys all wearing black, carrying machine guns.
Happy Days.
