I renewed my VKS-737 subscription a few days late in December, when they confirmed the renewal they had changed my callsign from 2540 (the postcode of our farm) to 0300.

Has this happened to anyone else?

My last renewal was a little late as well so I received a new call sign
In my case it was easier to remember than the old one

I herd this is pretty common practice, and they won't shift on the subject even to the point people have gone to other networks because of it. I lost mine a few years ago, was a pain as you really should change your selcall number to match and I had one number for vks and one for radtell. I just have vks nowadays so it's no longer a problem. I'm m2545

They state it on the renewal as well

ALL renewals received at Head Office after Monday 30th November ???? will be treated as LATE Renewal with previous selcall forfeited and issued with the next available Licence Authority, Selcall number and Callsign.
There will be NO exemptions. It may possibly be a process that they actually have no control over.

I remember ages ago that my callsign seemed to fall within a block of callsigns for some organisation, maybe the SES, Police or similar perhaps they were waiting for me to slip up.

Have to see if I can find the callsign list again.

That would be correct - my callsign R7669 was originally from a block allocated to the LROC, I was asked to pick from a group of numbers the "R" (NSW) was fixed. I think they changed from that system the same time everyone went to mobile ???? 4? or so years ago.

Just looking back through some old network news the policy re expired selcalls/callsigns was introduced in 2004.

Hi all

Gave up on VKS737 because of their stubborn bull headed attitude. Because I was running late due to my "MOVE". I paid on time but didn't use their snail mail paper "Form". In the big scheme of things nothing about my 15 year membership had changed.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, They wouldn't renew me even though they had the money. As result I cancelled membership and demanded the membership fee be returned. They must have been a bit miffed, and that caused them to be just a little naughty, they dobbed me in!

Early in the new year 2014, I had an ACMA Inspector on my doorstep to ensure that I had removed the VKS737 frequencies from my radio. The radio still wasn't installed. Luckily I also hold a proper ACMA "mobile" licence and carry all of the RFDS frequencies anyway.

If I had just failed to renew, it would have been a "so what" case!

Anyway, there are now other "Service" providers and when I get my HF up and running again I'll use one of them.

I'm not bad mouthing 737 per se they have provided good service to me over the years. However, it looks like there may be a Dork or two currently giving them a bad name.

Cheers

Does your selcall number change as well? If so how do you put it into the transmitter?
Only asking as my selcall is the same as my mobile number and it is not programmed in to my set yet.

Yes your sellcall changes to match your call sign, as for changing it depends on your radio
