My second rover

Well I've somehow convinced my beautiful wife that I need another Land Rover! This is my Queensland Land Rover, as I moved to Townsville 12 months ago and wasn't able to bring my 1/2 finished project.....

So on the weekend I should be picking up what I'm told is a 68 series 2a LWB Ute. I think it may have been a Military vehicle (storage box on the side, spade bracket on the bonnet....), but I'll see more once I get it home and I'll let you know!

She runs (starts better than any car I've owned before!!), needs a new fuel tank as you will see.

Love the windscreen wiper arrangement! It has some mil bits but the only way to know it wasn't civillian modifications is to check the chassis number :)

Yer, the windscreen wiper on the top of the window confused me, I search the net high and low to find why they would be installed up there!!

Once I get it home I will search for the chassis number!!

If any one in NTH QLD knows of a fuel tank that needs a home.....

A check of it's numbers will answer a few of your questions but I'm fairly sure the military ones had the angled off front wheel arches ... at least I've never seen a military car with the rounded ones ... that's not to say they don't exist, or the guards haven't been changed at some point in its life :)

I achieved a few things today!!

First of all my wife helped in naming the new addition to out family....so I would now like to introduce "Missy".

Secondly through torrential rain, with the help of a fellow employee (big thanks Matty), we managed to get my new rover home.

I've found the chassis number and don't think there is any military pedigree (maybe just civilian additions) Chassis number is 25320038C

List of the work I have found so far:

- bracket to hold the distribute on (currently 2 zip ties)
- chassis rust repair and paint
- new tyres
- fix the brakes
- front universal joint recondition
- replace bushes (all) and maybe steering joints
- rebuild the dash (electrics and gauges)
- seat bases
- windscreen wipers (for some reason they are on top of the windscreen)

No doubt there will be more added to this list!!

I wonder where the radiator came from - it does not look like a Landrover one - I have not seen one with a fan protector like that, as they all have shrouds.

I doubt it is military, despite a few military bits. Some indications - coil position, no cutout for gauge above light switch, position of dip switch.

According to the REMLR archives not ex-military going by the chassis number, although I may have not looked well enough.

Other evidence suggesting it is not ex-army: no military panels on the front end, or brush bar; no blackout light above rear axle; no other brackets on front wings for axe, pick and handle, or evidence that they had been there; the rear spring hanger extensions look to be home-made; no white paint on rear differential cover; I can't see a blackout switch, or map-light on the dashboard; no evidence of tac-sign holders having been fitted at either end.

If you look under the front of the car, you will find extended front spring-hanger mounts if it is an ex-army chassis.

The S2 and S3 did not have cut front wheel arches, but the 2A's usually did in the Army.

The wipers at the top of the screen were usual for suffix C chassis cars I think; at some point they changed to the bottom of the screen. Both my C suffix cars have them at the top,

No Series Landrovers had the wipers at the top from the factory. Up to suffix B had separate wiper motors attached to the bottom of the screen frame (if indeed there was a passenger side wiper), and from suffix C to the end Series 3 had a single wiper motor in the LH end of the parcel tray, with cables to wipers at the top of the bulkhead, just below the windscreen frame.

The ones on this are an aftermarket addition, off some other type of car.

Harry - no not my house!! That's my work place! I currently live in an apartment block, so for now she will live at work!

Regarding the wipers, there are holes at the bottom of the windscreen where there were other wipers! So I think they have been added at the top!!

Cobber - Pic of the tray? Any area in particular?

Well an update:

Filled the brake reservoir and got a pedal! But I think I'll have to search the system as I think therefore is a leak!! Also need to give them a bleed!
Purchased
- new bushes
- tie rod ends
- lever boots
- gear lever tops
- universal joints for the front shaft and ordered the rear ones!!

Will most likely start work next week!

Not really no. The tray can reveal a lot about a cars past IMO :cool:
