G'day all you people with your heads in the clouds
Ive got another suspension lift question. Ive been shopping around (TJM, ARB etc, etc,) for suspension sets. Now when i ask how much lift i can get they all say 40mill which by my reckoning is just over an inch. Why is it then that just about everyone talks about a 2 inch suspension lift for their beasts. Am I just looking in the wrong places. Even with the quoted figure of 40 mill they just about all say they cant even garuntee that and that its only hypothetical. Im not spending $1500 on hypothetical.
HELP me in my ignorance.
Cheers
Mick

A 40 mm lift might mean springs (and maybe shocks) that are 2" (50.8mm) longer than factory ones. But with the added weight of acessories like bars, winch, fuel tanks, batteries, cargo systems etc, etc the final result will not yeild the full 2".

I fitted Kings springs and XGS2000 shocks that were qouted as 2" longer and measured a hight gain of about 43mm.

Also $1500 sounds steep. What are you lifting ?

$1500 was just ball park, iv been quoted $1000 plus fitting through one mob up to roughly between $1300 and $1500 fitted by some of the others (springs and shocks). Its all a bit airy fairy for me. They tend to scratch there heads and say well its probably settled a fair amount on the old springs so our product will give a definite big lift but we cant garuntee it. !!!!!
I would have thought 2 inches is 2 inches, either you do it or you dont. I want to use decent brands but the people selling them are useless. Basically i want to drive it in pay my money and get 2 inch lifted springs fitted. I am assuming that i'll need longer shocks so i'll stick them in at the same time if I have to. How hard can that be, apparently it can be done in a Patrol or cruiser (yes sir how many inches do you want weve got several different packages). If you say Discovery though, the shoppie goes kinda pale and runs out the back style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Note: Std RR has 3 degrees of castor angle, with B/stop clearannce of 2 inches.
Every HALF inch lifted, you will loose ONE degree Castor.

Defenders:
Yes, the OME 980/981 fit the rear spring mount exactly. The OME HD (420lb) are good only for heavy loads. They're very comfortable if you have a loaded hardtop. The Nissan springs (OME 980) are somewhere between the 280lb and the 420lb - I don't remember exactly, if you like I can get the info tomorrow. On my 110 softop (without hardly any load) the feeling is very good on and off road.

Thanks Michael
I followed that link and it took me to a page on ignition systems. So if im shopping in the wrong place where do I go. Second Question if the suppliers arnt in Mt Isa (pretty much a given) then what do i do, get the gear freighted up? Are they a DIY job or would I then have to chase someone down willing to fit them. Still wandering round in the dark.
cheers
Mick
