The oil in my front diff looks like it contains molybdenum di sulfide - it is probably Molytex EP 90 as per workshop manual recommendations. Following suggestion in my owners manual, I bought Castrol EPX 80/90W to top up differentials. 
Are the two oils compatible?

should be, but I would strongly recommend you drain the lot and replace with new of the same type. When was the diff oil last changed?

You kinda' just answered your own question then :D no need to mix if you're draining.
