Hi all,

I have been a keen viewer of this site for a number of months, the sheer amount of knowledge, assistance and advice is impressive. It appears there is a real sense of community spirit which is fantastic.

I used this site to navigate my way through a purchase of a 2007 D3 TDV6 S with 90k. Has aftermarket GPS/DVD/Bluetooth/IPOD/Rev Cam etc. Unfortunately it doesn't have TR, however its application probably wont require it. I tow a boat regularly and it may go on the odd beach or river sand. That being said, I am unhappy with the height of the car and will be looking to raise it in the future.

I also own a BMW X5, and after my experiences with this in regards to high servicing costs, I was sceptical about purchasing the D3 due to consumer feedback.

I purchased the vehicle from a close family friend, hence getting what I believe was a deal to good to be refused. My initial plan was to purchase the vehicle and sell it and make a tidy profit.

However, after owning it for some two months, I have changed my mind. In short, I love it.

The car is a 2007 Rego, but has a build date of 2006. Does this make it a MY06 or MY07? I am interested to find out to know whether to change the oil pump housing and timing belts. It may be premature, however I would like to try to prevent a terminal engine failure.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, it is actually dark blue but looks black out of sunlight. It is the S grade, which surprisingly is well appointed for a base model.

You don't need to change the belts until 165,000 k.

But to ensure a good service life of this engine always change the engine oil with the recommended oil at the recommended service schedule of every 12,000k at the most.

Many an engine has failed due to either incorrect oil, servicing also home DYI oil changers have to be very careful on how they fit the oil filter as this can case the filter to be bypassed and engine failure will follow!

The VIN will show its model year. IIRC the 7th last character/digit is the model year so should be either 6 or 7.

Or at 7 years which ever is the less. I have only covered 80,000k but as my car is 7 this year I will have to get the belts changed.

As it has black plastic and not painted bumpers it must be an MY06. MY07 went to painted.

Painted bumpers came in for MY09, the final year of D3 production.
