G,day all would like to picking ya knowledgeable brains about a concern I have with my Isuzu 4BD1 powered 110.
The engine in question was fully over hauled last year with new piston & liners, rings all new bearings as well as getting the injectors overhauled and the pump gone over too.
The engine has now covered 20,000 KLMs and runs well but while idling there seams to be a lot of blowby coming from the breather, its not like billowing out smoke but defly a mist. Is this normal? I have own many petrol powered Landys but this is the 1st oil burner!

Also while the engine is under load say going up a incline while towing a car trailer the engine has what sounds like a pinging noise!!!!!

Mine has always had significant blowby - got it at 80,000, now done nearly 600,000, still much the same.

Last time I had the 'pinging' noise it eventually turned out to be the back pivot bolt on the alternator had fallen out!

They do breathe heavily at idle. The ring gaps are large enough that when run for 750C continuously the ring ends still don't meet.

Thankfully.

But mine I think would win the heavy breathing contest. With that chunk out of the #3 liner it actually whistles at idle.:(

They likely used the cheapest cylinder kits they could find. So that'll give you rattly pistons and more blowby.
