Differences in hypoid gear finishing.

I was looking at a late classic diff and a 2 pinion p38 diff today and they have very different finishing on the teeth.

The classics are shiny and smooth, whereas the p38 have a machined finish.

Just wondering why?

P38's are so unreliable upstream of the diffs that wear of the original finish on the teeth is rarely detected.
