missing metal backup key from key fob - suggestions?

When I purchased my vehicle second hand I realised days later that the spare metal key, used when the remote unlocking doesn't work, was missing from the key fob. Any suggestions on replacement? Can a key cutter just copy the other fobs key?

I think you can get them cut from a blank. Go see a key cutter.

In my village, it appears impossible to get a LR key cut; Mercedes, Audi, BMW etc, yes, but the LR key seems beyond anyone's ability. I guess that makes me feel secure anyway - and yes, the locksmiths are truly puzzled as to why their machines just do not seem to succeed with the LR blank.

My solution was to order from the UK thru the local LR dealer a blank cut to my 3.

When the cut key arrived, my dealer then gave me a dead LR3 key fob that was of no use to them and I pinned in the new cut key part.

I now have the unlocking key wrapped in plastic and secured under my 3 so if I need it to get in, I can retrieve it and at least enter via the hidden key hole such that I can retrieve my locked in fully functional key/key fob.

Also at least once a year, I try out the exterior lock, (one window rolled down), just to make certain the manual unlock mechanism has not corroded/frozen up and still works.

I don't get it. Is the emergency key a different
Type to the ignition key? If so I don't have one either

Yes, if you don't have a key. All I have is a remote control that unlocks the car and talks to the computer. I don't have an ignition key - only a button. Not sure when that came in, mine is only 2 and 1/2 months old.

The key is in the silver part of the remote control fob. You slide the silver part down and the key is there. Then you put it into the passenger's side handle underneath where it has a lock symbol to push two tabs back and remove the cover. That exposes a keyhole that the key goes into.

the key is stored within the remote and is meant allow you to unlock the vehicle, not start it. Start button was introduced in 2009 with the D4.
