I have been trying to get Goodyear to bring in the Goodyear Duratrac's in 255 55 19.
I seem to calling on deaf ears & they keep telling me their marketing department says there is not a market for them.
These tyres are getting good reports out of both Europe & Africa.
At least they are another AT alternative in 255 55 19.
They are what Landrover fitted to the D4 cars that went to Russia & China to celebrate a 1,000,000 Discoveries.

Any chance the administrators could set up a poll to try and get Goodyear to take notice.

You can actually create your own poll chuck. It's one of the options just below where you hit the "submit" button when creating the first post on a new thread.

You could always import them from the US, although how much you would save is a mute point as the tyre is not available here to compare prices.

Ive seen them on a couple of US online tyre sites & think for memory they were more expensive than either grabbers or the Cooper Zeon.

I want these tyres. Not now as my Wranglers have only done 22k but I will want them in the future. I'm old school (= cheap and don't get rid of tyres until theyre are worn out no matter how useless they are) and will be very interested in joining a group buy request to get them in through the front door or the back door.

While these tyres look more aggressive than the Zeons, for example, they are still passenger construction albeit with xtra load, same as Zeons. They are not LT construction. Not sure how much better they will be than Zeons...

I have 19" Zeons but haven't been that impressed with two sidewall punctures in two tyres over the last few months. I do lower much more than I should I suspect at 24psi for rock crawling so will be trying at Gordon's recommended 32 minimum going forward and guage how far I can advance.

Just my tuppence worth.

Cheers
Mike

Count me in duratracs would be high on my list if available. As far as I csn tell current options are in order of my preference happy to dee others. Maybe I should start a poll of like and dislike for this set.

Hankook dynapro atm
Pirelli scorpion atr
General grabber at
Wrangler mtr probably a step to far though

Cooper zeon ltz I have low faith in these not based on any personal experience though seems to be a mixed bag some have good experience others diabolical I dont know which one I would fall into.

I think those are all the At options any others to consider.

Looks like some posts vanished.

I can't find the 255/55R19 duratrac on any of the US sites. Not even Goodyear. It appears to be a european only size, makes you wonder where it's made.

In contrast the 215/85R16 duratracs I've got were made in the USA and not sold outside the US/Canada.

Tirerack used to list the original pattern MTR in this size but I've not seen Duractracs listed there in this size.

Anyone tried these. Local tyre guys can do these for around $400 a corner, still toying with the idea of the GOE 18s or some aggressive 19s.

tyresales got back to me re these tyres, they can do them for $409 per corner fitted.

I had them in a 245/75/16 on my previous Discover 2a and liked them a lot.

When I'm ready for new tyres for the D4 I will certainly look at these as a serious option.

They're XL rated rather than LT but are likely to be a better everyday tyre (for some) than the LT versions, eg the LT245/70-17 that I have as a 2nd set which are quite noisy compared with my Conti ATs. The 19" has smaller voids and more blocks for the same OD so should be quieter.

Try Kmart for price as Kmart was way cheaper than others for my Duratracs.

cheers will do. I have found that not many are doing them in a 19 inch

Just merging the 2 threads, seeing as they are on the same thing, and bumping it up to the top of the page as well.

After 3 month wait for these to be brought into the country, I picked mine up a few weeks ago and have been away in the central west for the first 1300km. Very happy so far. Road noise minimal, noticed them at 90kph however didn't bother the wife so happy with that. Will be swapping back to my other rims this week (Wrangler All Weather) so will compare ride and notice.

Did some mud and rut work with these on and was very happy. Pulled a BT50 out of Macquarie River whilst on soft sand (apparently circle-work mishap...) and didn't wake my 3yo in the back!

Note John at Tempe Tyres brought a batch into the country when he saw the chatter online regarding suitable tyres for LR rims. Apparently sourced them from Germany, and I was happy with the price.

Paul,
I agree with your list. I have had the original wranglers, the Pirelli scorpions and now about to go onto my second set of Hankooks. The Pirellis are good but concerns over aquaplaning when partly worn and the significant extra cost of the tyres swing me towards the Hankooks.

Fitted my 255/55/R19 duractracs yesterday and went for a long drive via springbrook national park, Cabarita beach and back to brissie. Minimal road noise. Will check its performance on fraser island in Jan 2015. Got it fitted for $403 per corner from tyresales.

Depending on your usage requirements Justin it's worth also considering the Maxxis 980, which is currently the only LT tyre in 255/55/R19.

Here's a link to a long thread with plenty of feedback:

Had mine on for 10000 km now. Wearing slowly and very evenly. I don't notice the road noise. Ride is excellent. Very happy.

Fyi, I'm going to try the maxxis next. They are cheaper, look similar and have a higher load rating. Haven't yet heard what they are like to drive.

Had them on my D4 for about 25,000Km now... travelled a wide variety of terrain and been very happy with them. Wearing well, I'd certainly buy them again.

As Scott said, the Maxxis are a pretty popular choice too.

Justin (Grentarc) has heard of an updated 255/55R19 Duratrac with Kevlar sidewalls. Tyresales.com.au list 2 versions of this tyre/size at vastly different prices. The original has a load & speed rating of 111 Q and the latest appears to have 111 S but I haven't yet been able to uncover any reference to Kevlar in this tyre. Maybe tomorrow Tyresales will respond to my inquiry as to the difference between the 2 versions.

Thanks for the info!
I see Duratrac also has a 112Q now as well.
