View Full Version : Puma 2.2 Key query

I have just bought a 2013 Puma Defender, and one niggle I have is that the ignition key is rather large. (Compared with the one on my previous Td5).

So can I get a smaller key cut by a decent locksmith or is there some sort of transponder chip in the Puma key that needs to be there in order to be interrogated by the ignition system at start-up?

Thanks,

Alan

AFAIK, it's just a key.

Get a suitable blank & you should be OK.

Yep I believe the key is just a key. Its the bit with the 2 buttons thats important for the immobiliser. Let us know otherwise.

Thanks for the feedback.

I took your advice and got a new key cut at a local place that has computerised equipment. They confirmed that there was no electronic device inside the key (using a scanner of some sort) and cut a simple key...cost just $5.

Yes, the new key works fine and it's much less bulky in my pocket!

For future reference (in case anyone is keen to do something similar), the key blank code is Silka LF 10.
And it even has plenty of room to engrave my phone number in case it gets lost!

Whilst on Fraser over Christmas i removed just the starting key from the rest, put the fob in the centre console locked truck manually then put key in pocket.

Returned from a swim unlocked truck inserted key, truck would not start, tried this multiple times thinking it was a battery problem. Once i put the key back with the immobiliser fob truck started.

Answer that one.

Cheers
