Rear power socket

Guys, I want to change the rear 12V cigarette socket in my D4 to an Anderson plug. Ideally I'd like to pull the socket out and replace it with an Anderson. Does anyone know if the socket can be pulled out or is it moulded into the overall compartment? Alternatively I could tap into the wiring below the socket via the removable flap where the trailer hitch is stored. Does anyone know what the wire colours are?

Purple with green stripe and is protected by a 20A fuse.

Leave the standard low amp 12v socket where it is and run another higher amp cable to where you want it.

Hi Sniegy. Yes, what you have linked to is the connector in question. I'm using the 50 A Anderson to power up my 3 way fridge, inverter and other 12 V devices. Reason why I'm using Anderson is because I like them and they are robust. The standard cigarette plugs protrude too far out and tend to get wiped out when loading equipment in the boot. This happened to me today so I want to change to a more flat connector. The rear socket is rated at 180 W which is 15 A and on paper is ok for my fridge which is 120 W. I'm assuming that the wiring is suitably sized such that voltage drop is within reasonable limits to provide power to my fridge.

A Anderson plug will still protrude into the rear cargo area. Others and myself have used either the angled section of the panel below it or the horizontal section above it. Rather than a Anderson, have you considered a Merit/Hella type plug?

You could try something like this, it has worked well for me. Everything is tucked out of the way. There are two completely separate runs here, the accessory sockets are on their own 20amp line, and the 40amp Anderson kit has it's on run.
